Every year on Christmas I read the graphic novel Blankets by Craig Thompson. I'm about halfway through it at the moment. It's very touching, honest, and evocative.

Scruffinator: PacManDreaming: Mr. Fuzzypaws: A group of volunteers at the Buffalo

Um, can you send me a sackful of beef on weck sandwiches?

Holy hell I forgot about those things. Make it a double!

Beef on Weck (poppielink!)

^ his family ran one of the largest and oldest market stands for fresh beef in the Buffalo, NY area (Roesch's Meats). He closed the market stand back in the 90's, but went on to do Beef on Weck in stores, express shops, catering, etc.

Last I knew, he used to ship quantities of 6 or more, but I don't know if he still does. The is a video on the page where he does a "make it yourself" segment too.

Personal faves: Connors Restaurant - carved right at the bar as you watch. Bar-Bill Tavern, East Aurora - same deal, big steamship round, carved as you drool, plus tons of ambiance. Schwabls - old school, tiny place, no takeout, but sublime beef on weck. Bonus: Punch cups of Tom and Jerries during the winter!

I'm thankful that top shelf booze doesn't seem to leave as much of a hangover as cheaper stuff, as I overindulged in my present last night.

I am thankful my husband put a new floor in our bedroom and living room the other day. We ran out of $ 4 years ago when moving in and have walked on painted underlayment since then. I am thankful to be pregnant after being told it was impossible (the day before I found out), and that at 5 months along, all is well. And that our 7 year old cracks me up every day. I am thankful that my husband is almost done with school and will hopefully be working by the time baby comes, it's been a long 2 years.

Sarah Palin.

Okay, now it's up to you to determine "Thankful" or "Sucks".

Also, AlwaysJaded, I stole your wonderful Nativity scene photo for my own use but I gave you as much credit as I could.

Christmas came a week early for me - I met a wonderful man, who is so awesome that I keep doing reality checks "Am I dreaming?" After a year of dating some real class acts(*sarcasm*), he's the real deal. Whatever ends up happening, I'm glad I've met at least a new great friend. He's incredibly intelligent, independent (think: doesn't blindly follow status quo), genuine, respectable, respectful of me, has integrity & is gorgeous. I've got butterflies in my tummy & my heart skipping beats when we're in contact - I can't say I've ever felt this way before

Le Geno Vert: Bar-Bill Tavern, East Aurora -

That's the place where I first had it. My parents have friends that live in the area, when I was a kid we visited a lot. I haven't been up to Bar-Bill in years though. I really need to get up there sometime. I really wish I could afford to drive 6 hours each way for dinner.

Right now I am immensely thankful to have found a mechanic who would work on Christmas Day so I can be at work tomorrow. He didn't charge us extra either.

Tough year financially, like a lot of people. But I have my wife, my friends, and my pooches, and all you guys here who make me laugh my arse off every day... all of which makes me a truly rich man.

Merry Christmas, ya Farkers.

I'm thankful that the girls I coach soccer for have pretty much all wished me a merry Christmas even though they won't see me for another 8 months. it's nice to think I made an impression.

I'm thankful that my bitter, jaded, heart has turned back to a heart of gratitude. I may not have much, but I still have way more than I need.

Thank you Jesus for saving me!

Mystery Science Theater 3000/Rifftrax Christmas specials, especially Santa Claus.

I am thankful for my family and friends, even though we are separated by miles upon miles, just talking to them brings me joy. You don't realize how important they are to you're psyche/spirit/soul/emotional well-being until you have to spend the holidays without them.

Oh, and thanks to whoever kicked me the TF membership. It feels good to finally be somebody.

MyRandomName: People still use iPods? Really?!?

That's why phones have so much memory now.

Well, memory is nice for running multiple things at once, but I prefer storage space so I can put more music on it. ;P

And I'd rather have a dedicated mp3 player, because a mere 8gb to split across music, programs, and other data is insufficient. Greater than 16gb exclusively for my music or GTFO.

I'm thankful that we made it through a rough year. That even though there were a few close calls, we still have a roof over our head. I'm thankful that even though it was rough that my kids were happy with the occasional little thing we could do and understood when we said we couldn't do/get something. Most of all, I am thankful that they enjoyed their Christmas gifts, they were few but they were grateful and happy with what they got.

The fact that my family got me a present even though i told my dad not to get me once, since their finances are looking kinda grim.

Mom Hates the fact that me and my sister still live at home, and i REALLY do not blame her (hate it myself, not the people, the situation) but aside from being homeless, there is not much else i can do.

Thinking of a last ditched idea if the current job i'm applying for falls through, namely Thinking of joining the Royal Army as an IT type soldier (Seems i can join it since i'm in a Commonwealth army and they accept recruits from the commonwealth)

Normally I am firmly in the Christmas Blows Smelly Homeless Guys camp but I can go with the thankful thing for once.

My awesome husband, who has been putting up with my shiat for almost fourteen years and still loves me. Man's a saint, I tell you.

Good health. My husband's currently recovering from double knee replacement surgery so I appreciate it more.

Our great new condo in a beautiful historic neighborhood.

A decent job that doesn't completely suck my soul.

Being in good enough financial shape so we don't really worry about money.

Good friends and neighbors. And Farkers.

Now to drink and spend Amazon gift cards.

I'm at work. And while I could say plenty about the company I work for, the Festivus Airing of the Grievances has already passed. So, I'll say that I'm glad I lucked into a field that I love.

We celebrated yesterday by going to my aunt's house and having our usual Christmas brunch.

Last night, though, was the first time we'd celebrated Christmas Eve without my mom. She died in May. Every year, we'd open our gifts on Christmas Eve, because Mom just! couldn't! wait! until Christmas Day. Christmas Eve night was the big event of the year. We opened all our gifts at brunch this year, but it wouldn't have felt right to let the evening pass without doing something.

I invited my brothers over to my apartment to drink eggnog and play old school video games. There was a moment in all that, sometime between the first glass of eggnog and the mine cart level on Donkey Kong Country, that I'm going to remember when my life flashes before my eyes. It was nothing special, just the three of us playing and cracking jokes about how the computer is a cheating bastard. It was just what I needed: A reminder that our world hasn't fallen apart without Mom.

/speaking of Mom, she would have had kittens if she'd seen sister and brothers crowded around a video game and actually getting along.

Went out with a good woman friend last night. Thought I was getting laid. Turns out it was the 'Friends Chat'. So not such a Merry Christmas, but it lets me move on, I guess.

Losing 160 lbs of dead (30 of it my own through various workout routines) and seeing the world in a whole new light instead of focusing on her. I'm grateful for my new circle of friends because the company I kept before were starting to hold me back. I'm looking forward to a positive New Year. I'm also grateful to afford the internet so I can come to places like Fark and get my information junkie fix.
Merry Christmas, everyone!
