I actually met "Ewa Ewa Coo Jay" during an in-store promo back in the 80's - a very, very nice guy...

I only put some rum in my egg nog whilst opening gifts last night. Sounds like a cool recipe though.

I made eggnog yesterday--used rum, amaretto and cointreau. It's delicious, and highly alcoholic. Also goes well with coffee.

OK that sounds good. George was known to throw a party.

I link to the Alton Brown eggnog episode because he's right. Most people don't like eggnog because they drink bad eggnog. It's vital you separate out the yolks and the whites from the eggs and treat them separately.

If you want to make a patriotic holiday...

I'll celebrate Independence Day, or President's Day, or even Thanksgiving. Christmas and "patriotism" don't go together, you tool.

"George Washington" and "Patriotism" do, though.

Oh, and if you're spicing it up with alcohol make sure you use good alcohol in a good ratio. Not all alcohol tastes good in eggnog. Bourbon or brandy should be your primary liquor. If you want to add anything after that you may want to go lightly.

here is my recipe for perfect nog:

Pour 2oz of Buffalo Trace Bourbon into a glass
drink it

I've been making '3 week' eggnog this year. It's about 1/2 booze and you stick it in the fridge for a few weeks to let the flavors blend. There's so much booze that it doesn't go bad. Could hardly keep the stuff in stock, between me and the people who have visited me in the weeks between thanksgiving and today we've put down about 5 gallons of it. I'm out right now and kind of bummed.

Actually George spends Christmas morning with water.

Always a festive story to share with your holiday eggnog...

That was awesome, and about a hundred times better than the submitted link.

This is true, but "George Washington" and "Christmas" have little to do with one another. I don't bring Jesus into President's day....

Religion | Patriotism. Pick one.

And drinking eggnog doesn't make Christmas patriotic, no matter whose recipe it is.

I actually think this recipe sounds kind of good - or at least interesting. I read about in MF earlier in the month and had actually bought the stuff to make it. Unfortunately, we drank all of the ingredients at my birthday party.

wax_on: I'm out right now and kind of bummed.

I think the scientific word for that is withdrawal. The only cure is to make some '1 hour' eggnog daily until your condition improves.

Soy.

OK, that video from effetemale.com was useless.

It could have at least mentioned that George Washington was a distiller and probably used his own whiskey.

Yeah, I was going to skip even the '1 hour' nog and just go right for 'burbon in a glass'. Should straighten things out.

I likes me Evan Williams nog made with rum, brandy and whiskey. The nog is thick as pudding.

This year I went with the Alton Brown (it's really the best) Nog recipe and wasted some Elijah Craig 18yo in it.
Oh also some excellent Wassail, the real Christmas-y drink!

Three different kinds of booze??

Yeah, he's the father of our country. A few glasses of that at a party, and I'd be the father of somebody too.

Then you know nothing about Washington and his troops crossing the Delaware on Christmas day to surprise the British at Trenton? In other words, Washington and Christmas have a lot to do with one another when it comes to Washington's mythos.

Well now, you must be a real scream at Christmas parties. And on the Fourth of July, too. Sheesh...
