Dear Die Hard:

You rock! Especially when that guy was on the roof.

P.S. Do you know Mad Max?

Take 'this' under advisement.

You know what I love about Die Hard that modern action movies have lost? A true sense of vulnerability for the hero. McLain gets his ass kicked and he actually looks like it by the end.

As much as I like the Bourne movies, the hero has knock down, drag out 10 minute fist fights with trained killers and comes out with a tiny dribble of blood on his lip.

I've now written too much on this topic.

I'm bored.

Good point. Is why I like the Evil Dead movies too.

Yeah, but there aren't a whole lot of other "Christmas holiday action movies" to serve as competition, are there?

Does Lethal Weapon come in second place?

Huh, i actually watched Die Hard tonight with my coworker. I had seen bits and pieces, but never the whole thing all the way through.

The Cleveland Show parody 'Die Semi-Hard' ,from a few weeks back, was a lot of fun too. If you are a big 'Die Hard' fan, it's available on the HULU.

That needed to be said?

Watched it again for the first time in over a decade a few months ago.
Except for all the smoke machines and Hollywood SWAT team tactics, the movie has aged incredibly well.

I re-watched it a few days ago. What really sets it apart from most action movies are the villains. It goes by the less is more logic. There's only a handful of bad guys in the movie but each has a distinct personality/look. It's not 50 random faceless ones getting killed.

I agree with you but Bourne is not one of those movies...

Guy looks pretty beat up by the end. He can't even walk straight.

Not to mention super soldier > new york cop. Bourne wasn't a regular human being.

RoyBatty, what's funny is while watching the movie it seems like it just comes natural to add "Mr. potter" before or after every sentence he says.

But it is an example of a movie where the main character seemingly can never get hurt. James Bond and the recent slew of super hero movies are other examples. The action scene looks and feels fake and you know the character will shake it off in about 2 hours in time for dinner.

I happen to have trained with Jason Bourne and that is what he is like in real life, you could run the dude over with a steam roller and he would still look fresh, he has been trained to bleed on the inside.

Was watching it last night. Was always my favorite, although I liked the second one a lot also. I get what roger ebert says when he says it's kind of flawed beau
Se of the dumb cops. I'd like to see a remake that takes them out and makes it one extremely tense movie. Directed by James Cameron.

Yep. This was more my point. One of the things I love about Die Hard is that the fight scenes feel like fights, and if you've ever been in one, you know what I mean (and I ain't talking about the schoolyard, last about 2 minutes until the teacher breaks it up type). You're exhausted about a minute into it and all the martial arts technique goes to shiat and you start biting, elbowing, eye-gouging or whatever else you can do to survive.

There is a distinctly non-choreographed feel to the fight scenes in Die Hard and the hero is actually f*cking winded at the end.

I agree about Batman. It's so much more enjoyable to think he might actually feel it in the morning. Giggity.

This has been my Christmas movie since I was a lad. Every year we would get home from church, I would snag any gifts still needing to be wrapped and head to the basement.

This movie is one of the few Christmas traditions I won't be giving up when I get married.

With holiday blessings to you all,
