"Only a failed system excludes four out of the six major candidates seeking access to the ballot.

If it left out Newt, Perry and Bachmann, as far as I'm concerned it's an unqualified success.

I'm sure today's GOP would have no use for Bob Dole.

Why does Newt hate democracy?

I read about that in his book:

This man is the greatest historian since L. Ron Hubbard.

The only thing better than this would have been if ALL the candidates had failed to submit valid nomination entries and no names appeared on the primary ballot.

You don't know the rules,? Then don't be a cry baby when you fail because of your ignorance.

"So far, only former Mass. Gov. Mitt Romney and Texas Congressman Ron Paul are officially on the primary ballot."

LOL!

"Only a failed system excludes four out of the six major candidates seeking access to the ballot. Voters deserve the right to vote for any top contender, especially leading candidates. We will work with the Republican Party of Virginia to pursue an aggressive write-in campaign to make sure that all the voters of Virginia are able to vote for the candidate of their choice."

They will have to get VERY aggressive: Under Virginia law (§ 24.2-529), write-in votes are not allowed on ballots in primary elections.

I love how they are hopping around after shooting themselves in the foot, screaming at the rest of us about how this is clearly our fault...and then they shoot themselves in the other foot.

You can practically hear the slide whistle.

If they didn't want to sign the petition to get you on the ballot, wtf makes you think they are going to write you in on a ballot, dickhead?

HA! Grinch is a useless lardbucket. On Wednesday he was polling first in Virginia. Talk about self-pwnd.

No big loss, he didn't want to win the nomination anyway.

Well, that's seeking. That doesn't guarantee anything. If folk's had mobilized better and got more signatures, they'd be on the ballot.

Just because you want something, doesn't mean you get it. Means you have to work for it. That he's whining about this shows you the work ethic involved: not so very much. Just another fella who wants a free ride because he's got his hand out...

cretinbob: If they didn't want to sign the petition to get you on the ballot, wtf makes you think they are going to write you in on a ballot, dickhead?

There was no petition. Newt, along with most of the rest of the field, has no ground game whatsoever, which gets exposed in states like Virginia which require people in every district to organize this for you.

This is an extended promotional tour on the money and good faith of their supporters. At best is a play for a VP invite.

Romney will be the nominee by virtue of being the only actual candidate in the race. And even his organization pales to Obamas. If retail politics still matter, it's Obama's election to lose.

2011-12-24 08:34:58 PM
themindiswatching: No big loss, he didn't want to win the nomination anyway.

This is very true. Gingrich will not be the nominee. He's not trying to be the nominee. Everyone in Washington knows this. Most of the pundits you see on TV know this. Yet very few are speaking up.

This is as close to an "emperor has no clothes" scenario as you could get, short of a situation that involved an actual naked emperor.

It's a problem for the Republicans, since Newt is sucking up all kinds of media attention, leaving the party without a clear competitor to Romney.

I'm not a Republican, but if someone were wasting everyone's time by trying to sell books and increase their speaking fees as a faux candidate in my party, I'd be pissed right off.

So .... here is a way for Ron Paul to win the nomination.
If enough states limit the candidates to mitt and ron, ron is a SHOE IN!!!

this is the problem with this pretend candidacy
in the beginning, it was just debates and selling more books and speeches.
But now since the real candidates have dropped out or been pushed out and no one wants the remaining candidates, newt's campaign became "real"

WHOOOOPS
now we have to get on the ballots???

here is a question:
why does a candidate for a national office need to get on states ballot?
why cant an independent run for prez and get on the national ballot for president?

and THAT is why our system is so farked up.

How does he plan on invading Virginia? My advice is that he should start from the Southwest, and move Northward. The campaign will be longer than if he started from the north, but he can get recruits as he heads north towards the DC lib crowd. He's a historian, he's should know this.

8 million people live in Virginia, according to the 2010 census. 6 million are over 18. ALL a candidate has to do is get 10,000 of those people to sign a petition to get him on the primary ballot.

It's not a very high bar, and Newt made NO attempt to clear it.

A candidate for a national office? Funny, I wasn't aware this was the presidential election. He's running for his party's nomination for president. If he wants to run for a national office without being the party candidate, he's free to do so.

As for an independent running for president, most of the time they can't gather enough support to be put on the ballot for each state. That said, if you can gather the support, you will be on the ballot, look at Perot. The reason for this is relatively simple: ease of elections. While we may argue about the requirements for being on the ballot sheet, imagine a ballot sheet that covers 3 walls with the names of hundreds of presidential candidates, most of whom people have never heard of. If barely anyone (percentage wise) knows about the Green Candidate, who do you think knows about single issue candidate Joe from Wisconsin and whose only requirement to fill up space on the ballot sheet was paying for it?

And lord, please, please let Ron Paul win on the "Anyone but Romney" ticket. That would be priceless.
