An example of how good TV can be.

Well, I almost made it through the Holiday without shedding a tear. Damn you, subby.

Thanks, though. Sometimes power is used properly. It's just usually on a television show.

The first 4 seasons were consistently the best television of the decade. Of the century.

Without doubt, one of my all-time favorite shows. But the first 4 seasons of "Breaking Bad" would like a word with you. If you meant 'network television' you will receive no argument.

Since football is winding down, I've started rewatching the entire series again. I have no idea how many times I've seen it.

I skip the "debate" episode, though.

TV be damned. When I watched this show, I felt better about my government, my country.

The funeral scene is very moving. Also a nicely written and beautifully acted exchange between Toby and Bartlett. A highlight:

"Toby, if we start pulling strings like this, you don't think every homeless veteran will start coming out of the woodwork?"

"I can only hope, sir."

I think that says it all about the quality of TV in general these days. If this is good, I'd hate to see bad.

Did they start to give the flag to Toby before he nodded to give it to the vet's brother?

If so, nice subtle touch by the director.

My favorite is the Thanksgiving episode when the President gives Charlie the knife that Paul Revere made. Gets me every time.

That's one of my favorites. I skip Access, 365 Days and a couple of others. Any of the WW episodes post-The Supremes are terrible. Figures my favorite is just before it all goes to shiat. The campaign is all good though.

God! Access Sucks balls! I thought I was the only one!

If the homeless veteran had just died the night before, would they have buried him so soon? Seems like less than 24 hours is pretty short notice.

GAT_00: meehaw: I thought I was the only one!

That is without a doubt the worst episode. 365 Days is the second worst.

Oh yeah. I have to agree. I had to go back and read the show description to even remember that one. Season 6 is just absolute goo. Season 7 picks it back up a little, but by then, the magic was lost and everyone tired of Sorkin-like tricks. The best part of the Seventh Season was getting to see Donna in her bra and panties after schtooping Josh. Giggity.

I would say that The Wire beats any other show for the Greatest Show in the World title, but West Wing is really up there. A lot of people might shiat on it for playing fast-and-loose with realism or being indulgent or too idealistic, but fark that. It makes my heart feel all warm-like and giddy.

That episode was so touching. I loved how Charlie went through all of those knives only to have Bartlet give him the knife at the end. Another one of my favorite episodes was when Charlie had to go through all of those bibles to find the right one to swear the POTUS in with, only to have Bartlett swear him in.

Not if Jewish, sabbath notwithstanding, you want to get them in the ground within 24 hours. The whole embalming thing is really frowned on and any a lot more than 24 hours and you're getting kinda ripe.

No shiat. I have never watched a single episode of that show, but that was a great closing set of scenes. The shot where the marine takes the flag to his breast is just so heart stopping, followed by the passing of the flag to the brother...wow.

If the Dems ever had a candidate like Bartlett, he'd never make it through the primaries.

Great television, sad indictment on real politics.

West Wing was probably the best written show on TV in the last 20 years. It was that once every few decades show that doesn't rely on sex or violence or adventure, but instead appealed the intelligence of the viewers. I miss it and shows like it.

2011-12-25 12:20:01 AM
That was favorite show but I completely lost interest after 9-11. I don't think I ever watched it after that. Did that happen to anybody else?

I remember watching that scene back then and it just killed me. I do miss that show in its prime.

The look Mrs. Landingham gives Toby...

Acting! Brilliant!

What is really amazing is that this was only the tenth episode of the show. Most shows need a couple of seasons at least to get this good.

Though you've expressed it poorly, a lot of this is cheap Aaron Sorkin porn of the finest kind.hitting stroking well plumbed pleasure/outrage buttons.

The American President was canonical, the West Wing was repetitive yuppie porn.
