NASA knew what it was, just fine. Several farkers identified it as a pressure vessel in the original thread.

The only "mystery" was which particular satellite it came from, and that's still not solved.

I recognized it as a helium tank from a spent booster. Certainly something terrestrial in origin. Anyone with a brain knew it was made by humans and not aliens.
