NASA didn't know what it was, but some random dude from Gawker did?

gonzoduke: NASA didn't know what it was, but some random dude from Gawker did?

NASA knew what it was, just fine. Several farkers identified it as a pressure vessel in the original thread.

The only "mystery" was which particular satellite it came from, and that's still not solved.

I recognized it as a helium tank from a spent booster. Certainly something terrestrial in origin. Anyone with a brain knew it was made by humans and not aliens.

The Great Space Ball Mystery of ought-eleven has been solved

OK, now you're just asking for a punch in the balls, Mr. Article Writer.

First, it's spelled "aught". Second, "aught" is a synonym for "nothing", "zero", and so "aught-eleven" literally means "011". Just like "aught-nine" is "09", "aught-eight" is "08" and so on.

Wanker.

Technically correct, since it's 2011. Drop the 2, you get 011, or aught eleven.

/not saying it's right, just logical.

3/10. You'd have gotten another point if you'd used "bongo" instead of "bama".

Hydrazine is highly toxic and dangerously unstable, especially in the anhydrous form. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency:
