People don't like it when the cops show up. They generally are ecstatic when the firemen do, at least I was when my neighbors controlled burn got out of control and caught my house on fire.

Firefighters. Firemen start fires in boilers, like my dad and a bunch of my ancestors that worked for the Fall River Line. Firefighters put them out, like my best friend's brother, cousin and uncle and a few other friends. Big difference.

The local fire department here does some christmas tree charity drive thingy or whatever every year. Well I had no idea. A few weeks ago I'm in the garage and I hear all these sirens blasting, people yelling, a stream of cars going by (we live on a quiet residential street in a small town) and what sounded like multiple gunshots. I freaked and started yelling at everyone in the house to get away from the windows, locked all the doors and grabbed my bat (if I had a gun I would have loaded it). Man did I feel dumb after we figured out what was going on.

I guess I lived in crummy city neighborhoods too long. I thought there was some kind of massive raid or gang war going on. lulz
