As I stated in the redlit thread, likely a seasonal worker with no benefits, etc. He doesn't give a shiat & just wants to get his deliveries done on schedule.

Seasonal workers don't drive trucks or wear uniforms.

Fear the Clam: Seasonal workers don't drive trucks or wear uniforms.

Bad on me. At first viewing I didn't realize that he wasn't the driver. Yeah, I agree with Bathia_Mapes.

That's no excuse. No matter how shiatty of a job I've had in the past or how meaningless it seemed I always tried to do a good job and I never took it out on the customers.

If it was your package and/or something got broken because of deliberate mishandling would you just laugh it off and say, "Oh, it's ok. He just didn't like his job."

My guess is there was a giant camera on the wall and a message berating the deliver drivers. He was obviously looking at something the whole way up the driveway.

My guess is the camera owner had something douche like posted, and got a douche response.

Not watching a 30 second ad to see a 5 second video clip.

But yes, seasonal worker, doesn't care, blah blah blah...

If you don't like how your package was handled, buy your stuff locally and carry it home yourself.

2011-12-24 01:55:46 PM
Depending on where this happened, methinks homeowner may be in trouble for having a security cam that recorded sound.

2011-12-24 01:55:53 PM
If you look closely at the truck you can see the driver still inside. So its just some part time helper that doesnt give a shiat and both of them should be canned.

Chevello: Depending on where this happened, methinks homeowner may be in trouble for having a security cam that recorded sound.

It happened in East Northport, NY. I don't know of any local laws that prohibit recording sound on one's own property.

Who cares whether it's a pair of kicks or a gorram Ming Vase? I don't care if it's UPS, FedEx or the farking Pony Express, driver gets caught on video tossing a customer's stuff around, they need severely reprimanded, suspended or fired with a guarantee of compensation to the customer if the item is damaged/destroyed

Actually, if he has something posted on his private property mentioning the use of security cameras as soon as someone enters his private property, entering is consent. Just like at the airport.

From Newsday's article:

A seasonal UPS worker -- seen on video making an obscene gesture at the surveillance camera before flinging a package to the stoop of an East Northport home -- was fired Friday, a company spokeswoman said.

The video, which aired Thursday on Fox 5's "Good Day New York," is at least the second one this week to feature a delivery worker inappropriately handling a package during the busiest delivery time of the year.

A YouTube video also made the rounds in recent days showing a FedEx driver tossing a packaged computer monitor over a fence.

FedEx apologized and said the employee was no longer working with customers.

United Parcel Service spokeswoman Ronna Branch said Friday the East Northport incident happened despite employees being reminded in pre-shift meetings "about being aware [of cameras] and about doing what's right."

"Providing perfect service is our goal, and we fell short in mishandling this package," she said.

Branch said she couldn't conclusively say whether such a meeting occurred before that worker's particular shift.

She declined to identify the exact location of the incident or the worker.

She said the man was a temporary helper who rides along on delivery trucks to help carry packages during the holiday season and one of 55,000 seasonal workers hired nationally to augment UPS' 400,000 regular employees.

This is the busiest week for UPS, one when 120 million packages nationally are delivered, including 26 million on Thursday, the busiest day of the year.

Branch said seasonal workers are usually on their best behavior, hoping to be hired full time.

"I don't think this is going to be good for his chances," she said.

Do you think this is an act of a copycat delivery guy looking for attention or is the delivery industry full of idiot drivers?

What's a rhetorical question?

2011-12-24 02:07:50 PM
I was a seasonal worker at UPS before like this guy is. He jumps out and the driver organizes the packages for the stops. If you think that was "throwing" your package, you would hate to see inside the truck and at UPS.

The Angry Hand of God: As someone who once worked for UPS for a few days, all I can say is, you should see how your packages get treated before they get to your door. That was nothing.

That.

I spent half a year working in one of their larger shipping centers. You wouldn't believe how packages are handled in there, especially around this time of year when the facilities are running at nearly double their capacity.

2011-12-24 02:09:25 PM
Do you really think your packages don't get tossed around just like that 5 previous times throughout the shipping process? If it doesn't say fragile....no one is going to treat it like a new born baby.

I wasn't excusing the driver. I was stating that he probably didn't give a shiat.

i can see tossing the package..although its still a asshat move for something that's not yours, but flipping off the homeowner? That's a firin.

That "Fragile" warning may just mean "Throw me harder than the last package" at times.

I'm amazed anything make it through the UPS system in one piece.

lwpengy : Union membership at UPS is optional.

Having worked in a FedEx terminal loading the delivery vans, I can attest that most all packages experience rougher treatment in the unload from the big semi-truck trailers than what this guy did here. The workers dont do it out of malice towards the packages; rather you have to do it to keep up with the breakneck pace that the supervisors demand.

So If you're sending a package that is light enough to be thrown; expect it to be thrown and pad it accordingly.

What? Why both of them? The guy in the truck didn't throw anything or flip anyone off. What did he do wrong?

So where's the mishandling? He tosses the package like all non-fragile packages are tossed throughout their entire shipping journey. Packages are made to handle what I saw. It didn't look terribly mistreated at all to me.

UPS has recently (in last year) reduced its driver force by 25%, and required the remaining drivers to work overtime to cover the hours. They have to pay overtime, but they pay no benefits for those hours, and they save some money with a smaller vehicle fleet. They profit by burning-out their employees. This an excuse for this behavior? No way.

They won't be. UPS allows its drivers and helpers to throw a package up to five feet. They won't even talk to them, except maybe about that camera move

Meaning that he's now working at a FedEx warehouse somewhere, breaking and losing packages out of the watchful eyes of the customers.

And you thought that only the Vatican shuffled around their bad employees to escape Justice.

Why is this news? A carrier mishandling packages isn't really something new or rare. It's happening to your delivery right now.

Sarcastic disdain != trolling. I despise both workers like this, and people who seem willfully ignorant of the fact that the workforce is chock full of employees who undermine their companies' every day.

I swear, "trolling" is used about as accurately as "irony" or "hipster."

I'm surprised it wasn't a disgrunted coder from their Mahwah office. When I was there they would pull any able-bodied employee for ride-alongs in December... I had an IT analyst friend who was put on a truck when she was 3 months pregnant.
