(Some Guy) Sad Had I known that I wouldn't be getting a first gen back, I would have never sent mine in. Greed got the best of me. I should have kept my first gen, it was fine   (appleinsider.com) divider line 96

Received my confirmation email this morning. Very disappointed. Scroll wheel is far better for where and how I use my nano than the multi-touch screen is.

I've never been hip enough for the iPod I won from our local NPR station. Nice to listen to audio books on the long drives though.

People still use dedicated media players? My phone does all of that and will connect via blutooth to my car radio.

It sounds to me that this is your fault.

My wife sent hers back and got the new Nano back yesterday. She loves it. It's pretty slick.

The best part is that it was a regifted gift in the first place.

They can pry my second-gen iPod shuffle from my cold, dead hands. I know it's basically like the fourth gen only a bit bigger, but the newest one has that damn song announcing crap on it. Who wants to hear this during their morning jog instead of a nice crossfade:

*jamming electro beat fading out* ||| HEARTBEATS ||| BY ||| VERSANT ||| *fade in more cool electro music*

No thanks Apple, you had it right with the second generation shuffle.

/and yes I know I can turn it off but I shouldn't have to bother

aw shiat. The only reason I still used my first gen nano was because I've already returned my current gen 3 times to apple when the screen blacked out - even high humidity will kill them.

They're ok for using in the house, but I wouldn't even trust these going for a long walk outside.

this sucks

My 1st generation RCA Lyra with no touchscreen and ONLY usb 1.1 support finds your nano to be overly ostentatious.

I love how we've become conditioned to be more happy with a device that carries a 50$ month charge (minimum) over one that only cost 179$ and lasts for years...

I like having the shiatload of storage space. My phone has 2 gigs with 8 on the card, my old iPod, dating from 7 years or so ago, had 30. The one I replaced it with when it fried has 160.

You try randomly fitting a couple old stanley cup final games on your phone along with your entire movie collection and a season or two of a TV series. It doesn't work so well.

That said, it wouldn't work so well on a nano either.

Show_The_O_Face: My first gen was stolen by some people whom I was trying to help back in the day.

CSB time:

A buddy of mine had his name and phone number engraved on the back of his nano. It was later stolen/lost/sidetracked/something and he was absolutely confident that he would get it back because of his foresight in engraving the owners info on it.

Sure enough, a couple of days after it goes missing, the phone rings:

*ring*

*Hello?*

*Friskya's buddy? Thank you very much!* *click*

/laughed my ass off when I heard

I used mine to run Rockbox after it became past its prime, and I got quite used to having a media player that didn't use iTunes - for concerts, comedy recordings, stuff you want to listen to once, in order, and then delete. A folder-based drag&drop interface is way better in those situations. Now I have no Rockbox, and I doubt it's coming to the touchscreens anytime soon.

So, if I wanted a media player specifically for Rockbox, what's the best bet? A 2nd gen nano? The 5.5g iPod video would be nice if I needed to carry everything with me but 2GB of flash RAM proved itself more than adequate for daily use.

Eyeballing the picture in the article, I sure hope they didn't damage the thing cramming it in that little bitty box.

People still think that smartphones are the answer to everything? My collection of items that do the same as your smartphone cost half as much (total).

It sounds to me that this is a poorly done troll.

Just got my confirmation that my replacement has shipped. I did not expect to get the same one back, in fact, I used as an excuse to upgrade a thing I don't really use anymore anyways, And yes, my original Nano was a regift as well.

In fact, when the original battery started to go out on on the old Nano, I just replaced it myself anyways
