As a kid I remember the Vietnam protests. I remember the popular opinion of them was something along the lines of "dirty hippies" "draft dodgers" and "college students who never had a real job." That went on for some time.

Eventually we left Vietnam for all the reasons the protesters said we should. Could have saved a lot money and lives by listening to them instead of making fun of them.

Not that that would be an issue in today's America.

It's looking like all those Republicans will be getting a Romney for Xmas and no Palin dolls for anyone as they have been discontinued and pulled from the shelves. Also, the grinchy media stole their Herman Cain action figures. Sour grapes will be the GOP fruit of the year of 2012.

I'm reminded of those "pussies" who didn't want to stop Saddam Hussein from making us eat lemon cake or something. Liberators and such.

To be fair, all Fox News ever reports are opinions, rarely any facts.

Fox is nothing but opinion. Even if they try to offer real news they smother it in opinion. A while back I'm on a business trip, sitting in my hotel flipping through the channels. I find CNN and they're covering the drop in unemployment. They explain that the department of labor attributes much of this to 120,000 new jobs. So I think "more people working, thats good". I keep flipping through the channels and hit Fox News. They're discussing the change in unemployment and act confused as to why this is (of course they never mention the reason given by the dept of labor). They then turn to judge anthony napolitano to explain. He describes how the job market has contracted so badly that people have given up looking for work and thats why unemployment dropped, as usual opinion is substituted for any facts that Karl Rove wouldn't approve of.

Fox forgets those "dirty hippies" were out there because their friends from high school were coming home in boxes.

Ah, the good old days, before the Pentagon and Wall Street were in charge of the mainstream media.

The War on Christmas is that special time of year when conservatives devote their time to making the season a hate fest.

While normal people enjoy their families and friends.

Really? You rhymed with a letter? A letter that doesn't even make sense in the context as I doubt the protesters are having sexual intercourse with the police?

Actually what he is referencing is the U-4 number, when the gov't reports Unemployment it uses the U-3, but if someone stops looking for work, they aren't counted on the U-3. "Discouraged Workers"... they are counted on the U-4. Neither of these include people who want to work full time, but can only find part time employment. In October 2009 the U-3 and U-4 numbers were closest 10.1 and 10.4 But in all of 2010 the numbers were a full percentage apart, meaning since october 2009 many people have stopped looking for work. These people simply aren't reported as 'unemployed' in the U-3, while overall the unemployment numbers have dropped (by 1.2%) a real value is still 9.3 not the 8.6 being reported, by comparison in the early 2000's the U-3 and U-4 numbers were pretty much within .1 of each other, and often were the same number.

Personally I think the U-6 number is the most telling though, this number includes people who want full time work, but only work part time, and people who aren't looking as well as a couple of other categories not considered in either the U-3 or U-4 numbers.

Last month's U-6 was 15.6, of course this does include underemployed as well as unemployed. But by comparison when the U-3 was in the 4s this was only in the 6s a roughly 2-3 point difference, today the U-3 is 8.6 a 7 point difference.

Smooth move, dipshiat. You just admitted you actually do know what the Occupy protestors are pissed about. Way to spoil your own narrative.

2011-12-24 10:50:55 AM
look they put "Solstice" instead of Christmas, I guess even Fox News is bowing to the will off butthurt atheists

2011-12-24 10:52:54 AM
Twas the night before Solstice, and all through the park
No protesters were stirring, even after the dark.
Occupiers were seething, all mad at The Man,
'Tis Wall Street we're blamin' and we're not a fan.

When out of the mud there arose a great crash,
Perhaps it was thugs or a junkie on hash.
I undid my sleeping bag, made fine from bamboo.
(Thank Gaia it was clean and recyclable too.)

I climbed from the muck (or maybe the mire),
And looked through the tents or just a bit higher.
My friends to the left (there were many of those),
They continued to sleep. They continued to doze.

I heard a loud voice or maybe some chanting,
"Whose street? Our street!" someone is sleep ranting.
I shuffled through the crowd, across frozen ground.
Somewhere nearby an answer must be found.

The camp light was eerie, lit bright by the moon.
No, that's just a camera and some NPR loon.
Then an Escalade pulled up with a flash.
With 400 horses, that sleigh cost big cash.

The hybrided monster held a huge crowd inside.
All sipping Cristal and pimping their ride.
Their SUV silent, the crowd raised a toast.
They toasted their master. They toasted their host.

He called out to them for he knew them by name.
Each one of them bowed - they were pawns in his game.
Now Van Jones! Now Holder! Now some Hollywood vixen!
On Marx! On Mao! It's capitalism we're fixin'.

They threw open the doors and threw lots of scratch.
When giving out money, his record unmatched.
He pulled tight on their strings with Gepetto-ish pride.
They did all he said since he ruled the lib side.

The flunkies moved quickly, through marchers all sleeping.
Through tents and police lines, the givers went creeping.
They threw their support to Occupiers they found.
They handed out money and iPads all 'round.

Protesters were silent, no more police they would F.
And Pepperspray cop now unneeded as ref.
They dreamed of revolt both global and red,
While images of Occupying marched through their heads.

Then the black car door opened just one more time.
I saw a foot clear as the door it did chime.
The Hungarian elf with briefcase in hand,
Jumped out of his car dressed decidedly grand.

His attire was Armani, from head to his toe,
And his shoes were so shiny, it seemed they did glow.
He was dressed to the nines, with lots of zeros.
He funded the left. He was one of their heroes.

His silver head furrowed, as he started to frown.
His bushy eyebrows raised as he looked around.
The bags 'neath those eyes were full like a stocking.
His look it was sour, from many a Beck mocking.

His fingers were black from counting his money.
His jowels jiggled some and he talked a bit funny.
That he was a sly fox, it need not be stated.
Which is for best, since we know Fox he hated.

He spoke not a word, but his hands traced a nine.
Then did it again to mock a popular whine.
Then held up a finger (you know which he'd present),
Boasting "I'm the 1 of the 1 of the 1-est percent."

He walked to the sleigh, as the flunkies bowed down.
And reclined in the back as he raced out of town.
But I heard him holler as they sped from the sight,
Nothing of Christmas or to all a good night.

"Occupy away! Go ahead, do your worst.
"Shut down ports, banks and bridges - just let me know first."
"Since I'm on the inside, I'll make lots of dough."
"That's how I got rich," as he laughed "Ho, Ho, Ho."

This. I sometimes think about how different society would look if we actually listened to the poor, workers, women, children, minorities, etc., instead of marginalizing them.

But yeah, let's keep pretending like the searing want which tortures working people all over the world doesn't exist. That'll keep working forever, I'm sure.

This is BS, There is no 'official' leader of the OWS movement, however leaders have risen in all the groups, The same 6 or 7 faces here in NY and 3 nearby in Hartford seem to be the rally leaders.

What you say is true, but it should be noted (new window) that all three of those numbers dropped by a larger-than-usual amount (as did the difference between u3 and u4 or u6), which indicates that there really was an increase in jobs in November.
