Armstrong says the fine is worth the joy of having the display up.

He said a man came by on Friday morning and gave them $25 to help pay the fine.

I would so totally be that neighbor who paid the fine. Fark you, HOAs. I won't say I will NEVAR buy where there is an HOA, but it was a reason to pass up an otherwise great house when I was looking. Buncha busybodies with nothing better to do than count lawn ornaments and biatch about unapproved shrubbery.

What is the purpose of putting so many lights on a house? Is it a sexual thing?

I pay 250 a month and the HOA doesn't bother me as much. Do you people read the contracts they make you sign? I mean, you're not legally obligated to join an HOA.

I'd rather buy the house from American Horror Story than live in a HOA.

Well that's not saying much because one of the ghosts is hot and always horny.

I usually find those that put up enormous amonts of garbage like this are the ones that are not only the most insecure, but the ones that have some serious skeletons in the closet.

And pfffft at $25 every two weeks, in my HOA fines are $25 a DAY if you are not in compliance.

One more reason to never buy a house in a subdivision with covenants or a HOA.

Fark HOA's, they're just there so white assholes can try to make money off their property, forgetting that a house is a place to be lived in, not flipped for a profit to someone who actually needs a place to live and raise their kids.

I once fired a real estate agent because she felt it was "too much work" to filter out the listings of homes with HOA's. I told her to only show me homes without HOA's but she insisted and took me to two homes in a row which had HOA's. Then she tried to tell me it was for my own good and to "protect my investment". She refused to show me homes without an HOA because the HOA homes were in new developments and sold for the most money (i.e bigger fee for her).

Um. You aren't forced at gun point to live in an HOA is what I'm saying.

True, but some places you can't move into unless you join the HOA. Also heard of soldiers being evicted because HOA dues weren't paid while overseas, even though house was paid up, despite the legality.

I'm with you on the cynicism about human nature, but our opinions diverge about HOAs. I bought in a neighborhood with a fairly meddlesome HOA, and I myself get 2-3 nastygrams per year for leaving trailer or camper in the driveway for a week during projects... but it sure is nice to see the whole neighborhood always clean and orderly.

I have a little farm in the country where there is no HOA or municipal (city) laws at all. One of my neighbors has a pile of beer cans in his front yard that is taller than the roof of his singlewide. Another neighbor's land always smells of horse manure. But at least I can make all the noise and smoke and trails I want.

Not true, you can still live in the house, it just can't be on their block.

Buyer beware? I defend them because I'm blessed to live in one that's still small and were tickled pink by the idea of having "young people" move in. Two single girls, at that.

Yep, we were about due for a holiday HOA-hate thread.

Probably 90% of the neighborhoods in Northern Colorado have HOAs. The ones that don't are either in the nicer part of the cities close to campus or downtown, and the homes are too expensive (for me anyway), or they're trailer parks.

/Lives in a neighborhood with "the lowest HOA fees in Loveland!" Which amounts to $90 a month for shoveling the snow after we've already driven over it twice and unnecessarily watering the lawn in the middle of a storm.

That's nothing. I once killed a family of five because they were standing in line in front of me and the youngest boy said "I love ho hos". the problem is that in a lot of areas, your options are:
1: decent place, but has a HOA
2: decent place, but in the middle of bumfark nowhere... probably still has a HOA
3: farking expensive but run-down old-construction... no HOA, but the "historical society" wants to crawl up your ass for having the audacity to change the paint color or daring to pave your driveway.
4: ghetto

Damn ggecko: calm down buddy! either step up to the bar and have a glass of cheer, or.. if you've had too much, step away ;)

But really, $25 every other week is a pretty light fine, and apparently they have also have a neighborhood contest. which the homeowner has won in the past.

seems to me there maybe some politics stewing down in the old HOA.;) maybe Betty Havensloop is a little upset that she isn't the center of attention and after a little hummer behind the club house sent Brent over to tell the dude to calm it down OR ELSE!

Yeah, I've never understood why churches have that. You think that the reason Jesus hasn't returned, is that he sees all these crosses, and figures, "screw this, they're already ready for me this time, I'm staying the hell away from that".
