Yep, drugs washing up on short are still referred to as "Square Grouper" in Florida. There's multiple stories on the derivation of this, but the one I've heard was from Everglades City, FL, a fishing town in the southern portion of Florida. Back in the 80s/90s, the fishermen would fish for the swimming type of fish during the day, shuttle bales of pot from ships to shore. At one point nearly 90% of the adult male population of Everglades City was arrested for drug trafficking.

/seen plenty of Square Grouper wash up on shore over the years, both pot & coke.
//used to watch drug runners do touch-n-go flight/drops in abandoned neighborhoods in the 80s. Ah, I miss that type of craziness.
