I preface this by saying I hate the Grammys, and I am in no way enticed by the cult of Apple.

That being said... are people that retarded that they don't notice that the demand for illegal mp3 downloads went up because people were looking for a non-Apple solution to the problem of how to get digital music, when it wasn't offered by anyone except Apple at the time?

Way to rewrite history. People were demanding a easy to use and cheap way to buy music. Apple provided it to them. And it paved the way for other popular services like spotify. Demand for illegal downloads went -down- (for music anyways - even with Netflix and iTunes - the video model is still horribly broken).

y'all are both right. so please get over it. There were lots of ways to get tunes for free and otherwise before I-tunes and the Ipod, but the Ipod and Itunes brought it all to an easy to use package with the Itunes, and the Ipod, and really caught the public's attention.

and I aint defending the douchebag, I'm just pointing it out. the only Ithing I have is a gen1 nano I got years ago as a gift, and I use Ubuntu to put stuff on or off it. I wont ever let I tunes on any of my computers.
hell, I use my android phone for most of media stuff nowadays anyways.

Kinda a dick move from the Grammy folks... has he and his company done tons for the recording industry, yea, has anything (other than his dieing) changed since last year? So why didn't this happen last year? This year he can't get up and share his thoughts on the recording industry.

And yet they give awards to performing artists...so where's the disconnect? Is it a big industry circle-jerk where the awards are given out either based on sales or as part of a promotional effort?

Then again if there wasn't an Apple there would be no Microsoft. Remember Bill Gates stole his stuff from Apple in the first place. The whole early computing industry was one huge cluster fark. They all stole from each other.

Also if Steve wasn't such an arrogant turd Bill wouldn't have had free access to all of Apple's stuff in the first place.

My thoughts on Steve getting a grammy? WTF for? So now that the guy is dead he's become a hero for the music industry. All because he gave us a new way of buying music? Hell the RIAA didn't even like iTunes in the first place. It cut into their profits and they're just backwards a$$ hats who refuse to go in any new direction anyway. Especially if they think it will cut into their profits. If Apple takes 30% of the profits more power to them. At least it's not going to the farking RIAA. I farking hate those people with the vengeance of an angry god.

I am loving all of the hate towards Jobs. I was expecting hipsters throwing themselves at the computer screens until they passed out from irony. Not really how that'd work but Jobs was a greedy douche and he was just the poor man's Edison, who everyone knows, was also a douche. that said, i feel bad for his family but everyone has families, and everyone dies. Though most of us give to charity at some point in our lives, which this coont didn't feel the need to. Seriously, what corporation completely shuts down it's philanthropic contributions altogether? Yet these corporations deserve to have the rights of a person? absurd

The Grammys are the Razzies of music, only they are taken seriously. There is no award more soulless and corrupt. It is a shrine to fools and evil men alike, an idol at which to worship the destruction of human advancement and spirituality. The purest decay of our purest art. If music is the rhythm to which our spirts beats, these awards represent all who wish to silence us forever. If there is a God, may he damn them all along side those that commit genocide and other atrocities against humanity. These are people not worth saving from fire. They are below murders, rapists, and thevies. I'd rather give a billionaire every dollar I had so that he may have nothing more than extra cash that day, than to give a single cent to save someone involved with these awards from starving to death. They are the greatest cultural abominations. They are modern sin in a world without God. They are obscene to even the last ounce of decency within Satan himself. May all of them die alone, terrified, and in agony.

Apparently you're unaware of the costs of distribution, storage, payment processing, system management, and dozens of other things that they all take care of with that 30%.

Yes, we could all go back to the model where each individual software provider does all that stuff, but having talked with a few people that were in the mobile business at the time before the app stores, > 50% of their gross sales were eaten up in processing and management costs. And this was when these apps were $20-$30 a pop. Now that everyone and their brother expects all software to be either free or 99c, I'd say they're doing quite a damn big service for those of us in the app markets. Other than having actually crashed the market on the price of software.

Sabyen91: What the hell is the deal with people deifying Jobs?

Boredom. We live in a beige, boring modern world, and it's diverting to demonize or deify ordinary men. Jobs was simply a normally flawed human being who was clever and did some interesting and profitable things. But add a little hyperbole and confirmation bias and, Voila! - instant hero (or villain)!
Guess it breaks up the tedium.

Ah, yes, that other thing Apple's guilty of. Creating an ecosystem which so devalues software that it's flat-out KILLING the handheld game sector. Why buy $15 gameboy games when you can buy the $0.99 games and have just as much fun? I mean hell, it's great news for the 1-5 person dev teams making those shiatty little games, but in the long run it guts the whole industry. The app store was completely unnecessary, and the whole distribution/promotion/sales model was handled much, much better by Steam. fark, the App Store is pretty much Steam anyway.

Which is why I said the whole thing was a cluster fark & that everyone stole from everyone. One company isn't inherently better than they other. They're both evil. Just one had a leader that was a true a$$ hat. At least the other is trying to do stuff to make the world better and not rolling around in his piles of cash going MINE! MINE! IT'S ALL MINE! Did he? Or did he repackage ideas that someone lower in the Apple hierarchy presented to him and called them his own? (Jobs stealing ideas and calling them his is a well known fact, but I don't know if he patented some of them or not.) Most of Jobs true patents would be design patents, like the famous "rectangular with rounded corners" patent.
