While I pretty much agree that early 90s era hip-hop was the golden age of the genre, it doesn't really make sense to compare that era with this one. Music is so fragmented these days, and there isn't any artists that run the game like they did before the 00s. We probably won't see an artist with the impact of a Nirvana, Tupac, Metallica, Hendrix, Johnny Cash, Bob Marley and so forth. The internet has spread so much music out and mainstream pop music has lost a lot of viability. Internet killed the video star (and the record industry), you get my point I hope.
