This fails to explain the senior citizens who overwhelmingly vote republican to protect Social Security.

No, it changes when you have kids, regardless of what age that is at. Something about being responsible for the well being of another helpless human, I think.

Submitter has obviously not met my youngest sister in law.

Yea,
But then after 5-10 years of kids, you start to the point of 'I am tired of doing everything for and about kids'.
Then you want to get selfish again, but you usually have the wisdom to restrict yourself while the kids still depend on you.

Once the kids move out, all bets are off.

Yeah, then the attitude becomes "EVERYONE HAS TO MAKE SURE MY KID IS THE CENTER OF THE UNIVERSE! IT IS THE MOST SPECIAL. YOU SHALL CHANGE EVERYTHING FROM TELEVISION TO THE ROTATION OF THE EARTH BECAUSE I SAID YOU WILL DO IT FOR MY CHILD."

So, the selfishness remains... it just gets transferred a bit.

/your child isn't special, and is stupid.

Jesus my aunt is like this. She has gone to extreme liberal lately. Any little article about republicans she forwards me. could be like something "Congressman plants roses in yard." And she is "OUTRAGED! THEY ARE DESTROYING AMERICA!" "WE NEED A REVOLUTION!" Makes the conservative side of my family seem sane.

The most self absorbed biatches in my office are parents. True, they're usually talking about their kids but the kids are really just an excuse for them to talk about themselves.

They obviously haven't met my gf's aunt. Nearly 70 and it's still all about her (or at least should be if you ask her, which nobody does).

The amusing part is that she often wonders (aloud to everyone else, when at a family event) why she was never able to find a nice guy and settle down, etc.

/gf is scared to death each time that I'll be the one to answer her aunt's question
//even the gf's family keeps her at arm's length... a lesson learned about what happens when it's "all about you"

More likely he's angry they've raped and pillaged his country.

It kind of scares me that some people are ignorant enough to believe this.
