I see CNN has received their check suitcase of cash from Manchester United

The tandom of Daniel Snyder and Frank McCourt would be 100x better than this owner. The four coaches he fired in seven months - are those all head coaches (or whatever the soccer equivalent is)? that would be absurd.

Yes. Subby here, and those are head coaches. Think, like, fired three games after being hired.

I like the part where Xamax was losing at half time once and he burst into the locker room screaming "I'll kill you!" (Shockingly, that didn't work.)

You'd think that football is big enough in Europe that they wouldn't have to allow Eastern European gangsters owning clubs. At the very least it is tacky. At the other extreme it is outrageous, as you wonder what sort of blood money is being used to fund the club.

Oh man, look up the Moldovan league sometime. For example, Sheriff Tiraspol and FC Dacia; the latter in relation to a guy named Rohan Ricketts.

I suspect the money might be going in the opposite direction.

I guess Sheriff Tiraspol is sort of an anomaly. A nice modern stadium in the middle of nowhere in an incredibly poor country. All of the players are imported South Americans and Africans

There's a reason Sheriff has a nice stadium. 'Sheriff' is the name of what is basically a mafia outfit masquerading as a corporation that essentially runs the region of Transdniester, a region of Moldova that has basically wrestled semi-independence away from Moldova to the point where they issue their own passports, and which thinks of itself as more Russian than Moldovan and more Soviet than Moldovan. The club's a showpiece. The refs are under heavy pressure to give them every possible call- like, we-know-where-your-family-lives pressure.

more Soviet than Russian, sorry

Yeah I had heard that and their wiki does a bad job masquerading that fact as well. Have you been to Moldova or Transnistria? I'd like to get there some day since I'm running out of Eastern European countries to visit

Ha ha, not on your life.

That's pretty much the average life of a Brazilian manager. It's amazing that FIFA lets some of these shenanigans take place .

Also, I have you favorited as "knows enough about Chinese soccer to know it sucks." We should trade stories sometime, even though the J-League is hardly as scandalous...

I wonder if this guy goes to those games.

Chagaev is a pretty entertaining figure (The Guardian briefly had a humorous feature on "Bulat's week," which usually featured him sacking a random staff member or getting in trouble with the law), but I feel sorry for Xamax fans. This guy may literally destroy their club. They could re-establish it at a lower league a la AFC Wimbledon but getting back to the top division could take many years - if it ever happens.

This guy sounds crazy.

Has anyone made a video game with disaster buttons? Like NCAA 12, does it let you crash the plane if you play as Marshall?

Wow, just Wow!

On another note, If this Swiss thing doesn't work out, I hear Manchester United might need some financing.......

Ask your doctor if Xamax is right for you.

Alternatively, Merry Xamax.
