Let me shower with my nose, then I'll have some.

Who cares about elephants? I'm much more interested in camel toes.

This is probably the "toe" in question.

Footfall? I think I read that when I was in my teens. Good stuff then? Does it still hold up?

I wish there was a cure for cancer. I think I might have hodgkin's disease. My neck has been hurting me when I swallow or cough and the area near my left clavicle is puffy with a slight lump. I googled this and I've diagnosed myself with hodgkins disease. I'm going to wait until after Christmas to go to a doctor. I might also get life insurance as quick as possible.

I hope to hell you're wrong. And it's just a misdiagnosis due to freaking out and "looking" for something to be wrong. God speed Ratner. I'll be thinking of you.

Yep, and actually it does still hold up, mostly. I read it again about a month ago. Just disregard the loss of a shuttle or two due to mishaps, the fall of the Soviet Union, and things like that. But it's still a damned good read, and it really makes me wish that we'd gone ahead with the Orion spacecraft design. Not the wimpy six-passenger rocket version, but the atomic powered it-doesn't-matter-where-you-land-because-it'll-be-flat-by-the-time-you -get-down-there-anyway version ;)

I hope I'm wrong too and I thank you for your thoughts. I really wish I was being a snarky smart ass about this, but I'm not. I'm 37 years old. Not young but not old...I'm kinda worried. Hopefully its nothing.

Some of you people will scoff at anything. YOU try running alongside an elephant while counting its toes!

And of course they are light sleepers, so they are hard to sneak up on.

- Quick, I need a file photo for the elephant toe article!

- How about this shot of two elephants whose feet are entirely covered in mud?

- RUN THAT SUCKER!!!

Strep throat really hurts too, and that's just a bacterial infection. Of course, a 100 or so years ago a bacterial infection would be reason to get life insurance PDQ.
I've given myself all sorts of horrible diseases thank to Dr. Google. Wait until you've seen a pro to worry.
I hope you're okay dude. Or dudette, as the case may be. Wyld Stallyns!!!!

Surprised this was even an issue. My [excellent] university Evolution lecturer said all creatures with a backbone have 5 digits - or at least vestiges of 5 digits. For example, horses have 5 distinct tendons joining their hoof.

Discover something else, and he sez you have dead set discovered an alien species.

FTA: Blair noted that the elephant had six toes, sparking three centuries of discussion around the strange toe-like structure occasionally noted in elephant's fore and hind feet.

ie: Its feet.

2011-12-23 03:17:27 AM
There's an elephants foot inside the Chernobyl reactor too. And even though the rest of the elephant is missing, it's still very dangerous.

/too arcane?

2011-12-23 03:44:49 AM
The extra toe is never found in an elephant's mid feet.

2011-12-23 05:46:42 AM
I'm but there are polydactyl elephants with six toes.

Subby is a dumbass.

Seriously dude. Would you seriously want someone whose main ability is elephant podiatry to be the one working on a cancer cure? Probably would just fark up all the time and try to create an umbrella-based cure.

Interesting, so a good percentage of cats are alien species. That explains so much.

As a teen? Am I really that old? Yes, most of the story still holds. Pournelle and Niven did a great job on this one. I still chuckle at the response to the asteroid in the Indian ocean: "Thanks!". And the nuclear explosive lifted spaceship is actually doable.

Of course they have five toes. Nearly every animal on the planet is pentadactyl.

Only dumb people wonder why we don't have a cure for cancer. Smart people know that not everyone wants to do cancer research and that throwing more people at it wouldn't necessarily mean we'd already have it.

Keizer_Ghidorah: And, we wonder why there is not a cure for cancer

All of the scientists all around the world for 300 years were focusing only on solving the mystery of the elephant toes?

There's only 5 scientists left, and at any one time, they are studying hard on pills, baldness cures, and why elephants have 5 toes instead of six. Or at least, this is the impression I get from the PISSANT SUB-PAR IDIOT FISHMOP OF A RAG CALLED THE MIRROR.

You can still find 6 toed elephants roaming the grounds of Earnest Hemingway's house in Key West.

The best Scientific minds of the day, while aware of the problem, where too busy developing a cure for baldness and pills for a longer erection.

Idiocracy will take 50 years, not 500.

Normal cats have a vestige of a fifth toe, and have a fifth claw on their forepaws.

/my cat Max is polydactyl, bugger has thumbs! Huge cat and his paws still look like snowshoes
