Except comet tails ALL point away from the sun at all times.

The photos were about as awesome as flat grey paint with lens flare, but at the very least you know that the comet wasn't traveling towards the sun, but rather being bombarded by a constant stream of ions from the sun that result in the "tail" which points the same way regardless of travel.
