That's why I went with Eli when I wanted to get a Giants jersey. You know he isn't going anywhere.

With the price being through the roof for a piece of fabric, I really don't care what people think.

Such game-day attire, however, would cost him if he tailgated with Kenny Bogle, 30, Danville. Bogle's group of eight regulars regards wearing the jersey of a player who has joined another team as taboo, a fan law violation with a penalty.

"Two-beer fine," Bogle said, "to be paid to everyone in the group."

Unless you plan on buying me another jersey, you can keep fan-wanking with your eight regulars Bogle.

Seeing as how the NFL is increasingly becoming a rotation league and official jerseys are unreasonably expensive, what other people think is not really of any concern to me. Unless the guy left and really stuck it to the team somehow, (Terrell Owens), who honestly gives a shiat?

Its not enough to support your team. You must support the team properly. Wearing a old jersey takes money out of the hands of hard working NFL players and owners and shows that you are out of touch with reality.

Just like Carson.

I don't think there's anything wrong with it, but for my fellow Browns fans it often constitutes hard evidence of delusional optimism. I went to a game recently, and the number of Tim Couch, Charlie Frye, and Reuben Droughns jerseys I saw was just staggering. It's hard to remember a time when people thought those guys were going to be good enough that a jersey purchase was justifiable.

Until jersey prices are lowered, yes.

Go retro, and you can't go wrong. Cheesy retro's even better. For the ultimate in cool, cheesy, obscure retro is where it's at. Did your team win a championship? Don't get the QB or RB's gear. Get the long-snapper's.

Anybody can walk around with a Tom Brady jersey. You know you're a diehard fan, though, when you're sporting the Joe Andruzzi gear.

I almost bought a Jerry Rice/Seahawks jersey...Although I'm a Seahawks fan, Jerry will always be a Niner.
I wonder if anyone has ever purchased a William "Gay" Steelers jersey?

2011-12-22 12:37:36 PM
I got a Brees jersey for my birthday a couple of years ago. I am so glad it wasn't Bush or Shockey.

Very timely for me. I'm going to the Colts game tonight and only have a Bob Sanders jersey. On the one hand, it seems lame to wear it, but on the other hand the jerseys are ridiculously expensive and hasn't gotten much use since I got back in '06. I was thinking of sewing a scrap of fabric over "Sanders" and writing "Thomas" (for current #21 wearer, Kevin Thomas) on it...for mini-lulz. I figure it can be like that guy with the Browns(?) jersey that just keeps crossing out names and writing the new ones in permanent marker.

Any thoughts?

I have a Dallas Cowboys Marion Barber jersey that is slowly falling out of the gameday rotation. I really admired the guy when I got it (in his early career he was just a filthy power runner) and when I wear it now people don't say anything negative at all. But in the future, no more RB jerseys. QBs, maybe a Witten jersey... but WRs and QBs just go too fast in terms of career.

I guess it depends on if your friends are of the Bud Light commercial douche-tard variety or not. Wear whatever the hell you want. If one of my friends told me my jersey was a 2 beer penalty I'd tell him it offsets the 5-beer penalty that his face is, and we'd laugh and get back to being normal adults.

I can one-up that...I have a Merriman and a Cromartie. Would like to get a Vincent Brown, but don't want to jinx his career like the other two!

Although, I guess the only thing lamer than an adult in a team jersey is an adult in the jersey of some guy who isn't even on the team anymore who seriously cares what guys wear while watching football. Go home, you poor ass man boy.

Gonz: Go retro, and you can't go wrong.

Bingo. Andre Tippett isn't signing with the Jets or Rams next season, no need to worry.

And I've always got the Ty Law "throwback" jersey (the season or three when they had the soccer-style vertical stripes in the fabric of the jersey) stored somewhere, for whenever they put him in the team's HOF.

Who the shiat pays over $100 on a jersey these days? Take your chances and order the authentic fakes from overseas. Most of these websites out there list NFL jerseys $20-$30 with NHL jerseys around $50.

2011-12-22 12:54:02 PM
When picking a jersey, I took stock of which players I liked, which ones were going to stay with their team forever (or close to it), and which ones were more than likely not going to sully their name or the name of their team. Since I am a Bears fan and this was '06, my surefire choices at the time were Brian Urlacher and Brian Urlacher. Unless he's found with prostitutes in his trunk or on the FBI watchlist, I think I'm safe.

Somebody has that pic of the Chargers fan making a (oh so timely) Priceless joke about getting Norv Turner fired. But one of the items on his list is a $300 jersey. Fail.

The one situation where I'd think it should seriously be frowned upon would be when a big name player goes to the arch nemesis.

Like wearing a Patriots Adam Vinatieri jersey after he left for the Colts and had success there.

But even then, I'd find it hard to fault a Packers fan for wearing a Favre jersey even after all the crap that he pulled to get to the Vikings. Since Favre did so much for that franchise compared to what he did after he left.

2011-12-22 12:58:21 PM
I think it depends on the player. As an Eagles fan, I would not think twice about wearing a Westbrook or Dawkins jersey, but a TO jersey would never be touched.

I've got one jersey, a Reggie White Packers throwback, and I know he's not going anywhere. Hopefully getting a Bart Starr for Christmas. I really think retro is the way to go, with the cost of jerseys being what they are (even the knockoffs).

My son and I like the way you think. He would still wear his barely-fits Westbrook jersey while the Owens one hung in the back of the closet.

/Steelers fan, should've beaten the boy harder.

litespeed74: I almost bought a Jerry Rice/Seahawks jersey...Although I'm a Seahawks fan, Jerry will always be a Niner.

What would be really cool is getting a Seahawks jersey of one of those many players who came and went in a matter of weeks during all that roster churning of the last couple of years (500+ moves and counting, I think). Kevin Vickerson? Allen Barbre? How about Evan Dietrich-Smith, who was cut by the Packers, was a Seahawk for a week or two, then went back to the Packers and got famous for being stomped on? Quinton Ganther? Zac Robinson? Lendale White, for the lulz?

Kind of like the guy I saw wearing a Casey Kotchman Mariners jersey during my trip out there this summer. Can't explain that.

What about the pre-emptive custom jersey for the trade/pick that didn't happen? Or the one that did? Chargers Manning jersey? Anyone who bothered to make a Andrew Luck jersey....

Xaro: Its not enough to support your team. You must support the team properly. Wearing a old jersey takes money out of the hands of hard working NFL players and owners and shows that you are out of touch with reality.

At this point Players mover around so much that its basically okay if you come ot the games wearing a Jersey of your favorite player no matter how long ago he actually played for your team.

That's why I used to love it when my towns outlet mall had a Resdkins Store outlet in it. As soon as a player got axed from the team his Jersey ended up there for under $20 instead of the regular $75-200 the charged for them otherwise. Since my kid loves having the jerseys period and doesn't mind whether the player is currently on the team, We were able to rock his world more than one Christmas (got his $300 LaVarr Arrington one for $25, the Jason Campbell and Portis ones for about $15 ea and even got him Archuletta and Haynesworth jerseys because they were, I swear, $5 on the clearance rack (for sewn jerseys)

/would wear a John Riggins one myself but holy fark are the "legacy" ones expensive

2011-12-22 01:15:01 PM
If I'm going to shell out big bucks on an authentic jersey, I'm going to get either a retired player or I'll customize it to say Shaggy C. At least then you'll know that A) the guy on your jersey won't be a goat at the game, and B) they're not going to get traded to another team and play against you. IF Shaggy C makes an ass of himself at the game, it's because he drinks too much beer. Not because of play on the field.

My Son actually did that last year for a playoff game and all he got was high-fives and 'spect knuckles

So based on that guy's logic, 90% of Colts fans will have to buy new jerseys next year when Manning is gone.

Ha, reminds me of this little popup store that just appeared in my building one day. Selling all sorts of stuff, but also some Cowboys jerseys so obscure that I didn't even know who the hell they were.

I found one that I just couldn't place at all. Turns out it was a Daleroy Stewart jersey. Who the fark is Daleroy Stewart? No idea, but his jersey was there.

I'm a Raiders fan, and I still wear my #24 Charles Woodson jersey. He's my favourite player of all time. I own his #2 Michigan jersey (no name) and plan on buying his GB jersey in the near future. I don't see anything wrong with this.

Having the name of a former player on your back is proof that you've been a fan of the team at least since that player was on the team.
