It's not even the party of No anymore. It's the party of Ruh Roh.

Any Conservative that doesn't concede that the GOP is being purely obstructionist is completely deluded.

Just saw their press conference. The excuse du jour is that only two months causes filing issues.

Just farking get it done already. No one is interested in the excuses anymore.

mrshowrules: Any Conservative that doesn't concede that the GOP is being purely obstructionist is completely deluded.

Indeed, they're proud to be obstructionists. They have convinced themselves that the key to restoring this country to its former glory (whatever that was) is to break down government to its core. I know it's cliche to say so, but this is what Republicans actually believe.

I don't believe that. They fold on their Randian purity the minute they're in power. Their problem is the Democratic HNIC.

Diogenes: They fold on their Randian purity the minute they're in power. Their problem is the Democratic HNIC.

BINGO! They have few problems with Obama's ideology or policies, they have a problem with Obama the man. And they are willing to engage in a scorched earth strategy in order to defeat him; we are simply pawns in their game.

And Dick Cheney is for gay marriage (done at the state level).

BIZARRO WORLD

Yeah, even McCain is warning of a recession if they don't pass this bill.

Goddamit, GOP!

It appears McConnell just told the House to pass the damned thing at two months then reconvene after the holidays to do the full year.

Rove and the others are just mad that the GOP war on the middle class is too obvious not that they actually want to help them.

Republicans don't care about America anymore. They just want their team to be in power so they can make more money and have bragging rights. They are "country be damned". The weird thing to me is they still have supporters that are too stupid to realize their actions effect them too.

The House has to pass the Senate bill. It's foolish to believe that there could be agreement on a one year deal before the end of the year. Otherwise, Boehner should just come out and say, "We refuse to pass any bill endorsed by the President because Barack Obama is Satan."

Interesting. When can they vote Boehner out as Speaker of the House? What is the process for this?

This could theoretically happen at any time if a motion comes to the floor that is voted on by a majority of the members of the House. But that is unlikely to happen because Boehner is doing exactly what the leadership wants him to do, crash the economy.

2011-12-22 12:33:05 PM
The Democrats have capitulated to every other Republican temper tantrum since Dick Cheney wheeled off the stage; I fully expect them to do so again.

When Turd Blossom frowns on your shenanigans you are really doing it wrong

2011-12-22 12:54:01 PM
The GOP has moved beyond Rove's "evil for the sake of money" approach and has embraced "evil for the sake of evil".

2011-12-22 12:56:51 PM
Why would anyone be surprised that this would be Rove's response? The man is pretty much responsible for the mess that has been created, mostly because he desires power and thought that he could direct the crazy train to a permanent Republican majority and government. The actions of the nutbar faction are counter to his ultimate goal of total power. He couldn't give a rat's ass about the tax break, he only sees a Republican party loosing ground and power as a result of this farce.

The monster he helped create is turning against its masters.

Which is farking retarded in itself as an excuse. The Senate agreed to a two month compromise to buy time to negotiate how to move funding around to compensate for the remaining ten months. Thats it. For the most part both sides think the entire year extension is something that should be done, its how to get it done that they need to work out. Thus, they pass a short term extension to buy them time to put together the logistics for the full bill.

It was actually one of the very, very few instances in this congress of honest to goodness compromise for the good of the American people until the House Republicans shiat the bed and pissed in everyone's shoes.

I don't believe Rove's disapproval has anything to do at all with making war on the middle class. On the contrary, I believe it has everything to do with him recognizing that the GOP's current stance is detrimental to their chances of making gains in next year's general elections.

And he is correct.

I heard that quote on C-SPAN earlier. I'm both impressed and saddened that he's willing to be so blatant. Saddened because I know it won't change a single GOP voter's mind. "Stick it to the libs!" might as well be a campaign plank at this point.

That's odd;

Why is the Wizard of Oz scarecrow's little song and dance going through my head right now?

Republicans have created such an Us v Them mentality that they have painted themselves into a corner. They can be obstructionists and piss off the moderates or compromise and piss off the Tea Party Republicans and if they do either they will lose elections. At least during a presidential election year where you need to turn out more voters than just your base.

Helps that their base is simplistic and easily swayed by emotions. 'God bless America! The babies! You're a socialist! Christ in Christmas! Republican Jesus!' Throw out any of these phrases at them and they trip over themselves to be the first one to vote GOP.

In order to explain the issues to them nowadays, you have to word it in the style of telling people that Lex Luthor stole 40 cakes. And that's terrible.

2011-12-22 01:24:58 PM
Serious if I was Obama any deal I made with Republicans I would show up on TV smiling with them, have them at the bill signings, shaking their hands, say how great it was to compromise with them, etc.,

It's win/win. Obama would look more bi-partisan and get votes and the Republicans would look more bi-partisan and lose votes.

They crashed the economy before Obama took office. Today, they are only destroying themselves. American voters do indeed have short-term memories and if the GOP would have just played nice with Obama, they could have saddled him with the stalled economy. Their hostage taking, obstructionist, scorched earth policy has truly backfired. Karma's a biatch.

Boehner's gonna resign before the elections. He obviously doesn't have the mentality nor the skill to lead anything. He's a dead man walking simply because he has no power to rein in the retards anymore.

I think the only reason he's staying is because any replacement for him will be a Teatard, and they will ultimately demolish any real chances of the Republicans keeping the House or the Senate in 2012. Which will be awesome to watch since the Republican mentality has crafted such a dire, insolent breed of Retard that they think they can con people with the same media trickery that has crafted their braindead attitudes. It's quite remarkable to watch.

Maybe so, but my point remains that Rove doesn't give a fark about the war on the middle class, or any other GOP policy for that matter. What Rove cares about is the party gaining and extending political power, and he is against anything that is detrimental to that aim. He correctly (IMO) sees this move as a political mistake that is likely to turn off a significant number of otherwise potentially favorable independent voters.

Several folks here have intimated that they consider Rove stupid or missing the boat, but I disagree with that assessment. Rove IS single-minded, almost to a fault, but stupid he is not.

2011-12-22 01:47:59 PM
Rove was on Fox News 20 mins ago blaming Obama for the House GOP and Senate GOP not getting along. He even used Bush Jr as a counter example.

I've never seen such a failure as speaker of the house as bad as him. I mean how many votes has he brought that he thought he had and then lost? And now he has this fiasco of not letting a bill to the floor because he is afraid it will pass. He says stuff and then his own party tells him he is wrong and makes him change it.
