As for the White House card, I didn't even notice the lack of a Christmas tree. I saw a bunch of presents on a table & Bo by the fire and thought, "Awww..." Then Fox & Palin had to be dicks and complain about the lack of a tree.

I found it interesting that Fox News's card didn't have a Christmas tree on it, either. But you know, why bother thinking about stuff when you can pay Sarah Palin to say some combination of "American" "values" "tradition" and "derp."

And it's from a public office. They're obviously trying to give (marginal) courtesy to the country's Jews, Muslims, atheists, etc. by not sending an overtly Christian card. If they did, people would have a more legitimate gripe about federal dollars being spent on it. If anything, it's mildly refreshing that a politician sent out something without his or her photograph on the front, and went with something more understated and classy.

Fox is a private company and can send what they want. They chose to be taunting dicks, but there's no legal problem with that.

IIRC, most of the presidents have sent secular Holiday cards. I remember W had one w/a picture of the White House in snow & his dogs on the front lawn. Reagan had one I liked that looked like something out of The New Yorker--just a watercolor of a parlor w/a chandelier & a wreath in the far window. It's like early on in Obama's presidency when the Republicans were freaked out over him not wearing a suit jacket in the oval office & all these pictures from past presidents doing the same started cropping up. They're not happy unless they're complaining about something Obama did and can't for once...just ONCE...say something even remotely positive about something so trivial.
