TFA says it will also reduce the costs associated with dental procedures. Anyone want to bet that it still stays prohibitively expensive?

Novocain doesn't seem to work on me, so I've always gone with sedation. To be honest, I kind of like it. It's a happy, novel, hangover free buzz.

It'll be just cheap enough that you can afford it, and just expensive enough that it feels like being kicked in the stomach.

Bunch of wimps. I recently had to get some fillings (chipped tooth, beginning of a cavity) and the doc was super cool about it.

He asked if I wanted the shot. I asked him "Is it going to hurt?" He said "yes". "Then you better goddamn believe it".

"Uh, just for the record, are there people that say no?" "Yes, just had one earlier today actually."

And your jerkoff insurance company won't cover it, so don't get too excited.

Sorry, I'm just grumpy because I need a lot of dental work done, which I can't afford even with my insurance. Plus going to the dentist makes me a nervous wreck. The whole time they are digging around in there with those picks I am totally tense and terrified that they are going to slip and stab the shiat outta the inside of my mouth. [cringe]

I've had a number of fillings, and have never used a shot. The only time there's any pain is when the drilling is nearly complete; the drill heats up the surrounding tooth. Make a little noise, and my dentist steps back for a moment. Maybe I just feel pain differently from you, or maybe you're over-reacting a touch.

Well super, so in the future I'll be one of a minority of freaks that still has all their bullshiat silver fillings from the 80s that fark your teeth up worse than the problems they 'fix', meanwhile people will be getting custom designs drawn into their teeth with tiny lightsabers.

Every time I go to the dentist, I'm thankful that I had the good fortune to live in the 21st century.

Especially that one time I needed a root canal.

Could be worse. My brother, my father, my grandfather and myself are totally immune to novocaine. Found out I had it when I had an ingrown toenail removed. Doc shot me up with it 6 times and it didn't work. Only time I have truly cried due to pain.

It costs like $200 per tooth to get those replaced by ceramic which are the same color as your tooth. Depending on how many fillings you have that's not a bad deal at all.

As much as I hate pain, I'll probably say no next time.
The last time I had work done, the shot caused me to lose most my sense of taste for 6 months.
(I still have spots o my tongue that can't taste anything)

anything that makes the process faster is a win for me. I have TMJ so any dental work means a week or more of extreme jaw pain. I tried sedation once because the dentist said he could work faster but he pushed my jaw so hard I was sore for almost a month. I don't react well to the 'cains so I make sure I stay on top of the cleanings.

/"stop taking and just get the work done" was what I told one of the hygienists: she was holding my jaw open and chatting with a co-worker about a baby shower.

Lumber Jack Off: people are actually terrified by dentists? I always thought that was a myth like people who are scared of clowns.

Neither are myths.

Walking into a dentists makes me go sheet white, my heart starts racing and my mouth goes dry.
My better half makes my appointments for me without my knowledge and tricks me into going. She know without her doing this I will never go.
On the other hand she is just as afraid of clowns and has almost identical physiological response to them and has been know to burst into tears if one pops up on the tv.
Personally I think my fear is more reasonable since dentists are evil satanic b'tards but clowns are just morons in a silly outfit

Well aren't you fancy. The moment my teeth hit the cool air, there's pain. Even getting a cleaning hurts because of the air and even worse, the cold water they rinse your mouth with. I hate going to the dentist more than anything else.

God, I would shoot myself. I had to have minor surgery done on my toes because they were constantly getting ingrown, and he used two huge shots on each of my big toes. Hurt like a biatch, but better than doing without.

Did the doc burn your nail root with silver nitrate? I'll bet that's an awfully pleasant feeling at 100% pain sensitivity.

I had to get an ingrown nail removed when I was a kid, and they gave me tons of lidocaine too, without any effect. Then they told me to look at the wall instead of my foot, and suddenly, magically, I couldn't feel a thing.

So, where you watching?

GoodyearPimp "Uh, just for the record, are there people that say no?" "Yes, just had one earlier today actually."

My dentist gave me needle phobia at age 3, due to a bad novocaine injection. As a kid and teen I would not get novocaine. Either nothing or laughing gas (which was pretty worthless).

Childhood of awful teeth (had baby teeth that came in with cavities). Teen years with palate extender, braces, and having teeth filed down. Adulthood with botched root canal, having healthy teeth's roots worn away by impacted wisdom teeth, and a strong gag reflex (brushing teeth some mornings makes me dry heave). Damn farking straight I fear the dentist. So please dear lord let this breakthrough happen!

/my mom likes to tell the story about the time I almost kicked the dentist in the head

lets see

Calcium 3.36×10−8 2.98×107
Iron 1.0×10−7 1.00×107

Calcium seems to be 3x more conductive than Iron
