I can't stand Rush but I won't deny that they're hugely popular with a lot of people, have a shiatload of records under their belt and are (more or less) rock n' roll.

The whole thing is meaningless anyway, since Rush aside, they're less discerning about who they let in than Lindsey Lohan backstage at the Viper Room.

And I don't think people are going to take too kindly to Axl showing up to the ceremony with a bunch of guys who aren't GnR.

Absolutely.

I was a huge KISS fan from 5 years old (their true target demo) on. But now, I'm more of a Peter and Ace fan. And, they aren't even in the band anymore.

Axl did not get the rock star memo about dying young and leaving a good looking corpse. Hell, at least Mick and Keith kept their figures.

Saw the 'interview' on That Metal Show... and how Axl showed up something like 16 hours late and then the guys interviewing him sat by like sheep and didn't ask him about his bloated ego and need to make others wait on him like he's some musical god.

I have to take umbrage with your complaint of Buffalo Springfield being in the R&R HOF. In case you didn't know, a few members of the band went on to bigger and better things. And they made some good tunes.

Same with the Dells, have you heard any of their music? Or possibly you just don't care for romantic music. You must be one of those young whippersnappers, so yeah, get off my lawn. They have been around for almost 50 years with all the original band members, save for the lead singer who passed away in 2009. Some bands can't even make it from one album to the next without line up changes.

Which brings me to Rush. I agree, they should be in the R&R HOF. However, they aren't on my "favorite bands of all time" list. I have seen them in concert, they are good, but they just don't WOW me. Personal preference I guess.

OTOH, yes, there is some crappy (imho) bands that have been inducted. But of the ones in your post I only disagree with ABBA and Blondie. I could throw the Beastie Boys in there but I am not that familiar with anything they have recorded. Everyone else on your list has had some impact on Rock and Roll. Maybe you are just too young to appreciate it, but don't discount it.

As far as Axl Rose, meh. Only song I like by G&R is "Paradise City". And that is because it was the favorite song of a dead friend.

I'm more interested in if the Beastie Boys perform or not, instead of what GnR is doing. I don't know if Yauch is healthy enough yet for it, and it would be a shame if they couldn't, but I'd understand.

ABBA is amazingly crafted and performed pop. Don't you be hating on teh ABBA!

What are they doing on a "Rock and Roll" hall of fame? Well, here's the little secret: that name is misleading. It's actually "the hall of music Jan Wenner likes".

It's either this or go watch "Firefly" and write down plot inconsistencies.

The announcement prompted speculation that at the April 14 rock hall ceremony in Cleveland, the original "Appetite for Destruction" lineup - a historically acrimonious lot with the opinionated Rose at the center - might perform together for the first time in two decades.

The others seem to be able to get along with each other. It's just that Axl doesn't get along with most of them because Axl is a colossal egotistical dick.

Axl and the name "Guns N' Roses" would not be in the Hall of Fame if not for Izzy, Duff, Steven, and Slash. He should do right by them, but he won't.

2011-12-22 09:07:09 AM
Mugato: And I don't think people are going to take too kindly to Axl showing up to the ceremony with a bunch of guys who aren't GnR.

This. There's no big rush to see if Steven Adler shows up and if he's alive or not. No one cares about Gilby, or Dizzy, or any of the other twenty people who have been in the band in the past 17 years. As most of the world is 99% sure Slash, Izzy and Duff aren't showing up, it's not gonna go over well. Which, of course, completely throws off the whole point of who Jann lets in - he does it to get butts in the seats at the induction ceremony, and then sell the fark out of the rights to the concert. He not only picks people he likes, he also picks people he thinks will get him cash. And that is why I will never buy another Rolling Stone, nor will I ever go to his crappy museum (which I've been informed by numerous people is a crappy museum anyway and doesn't allow photography).

When you think about it, something as anti-establishment as rock and farking roll shouldn't really care about recognition from the establishment anyway. The real RRHOF should be a concert hall or club somewhere.

Was in the car with some family last night and they had one of the random top 40/pop type stations in SoCal and November Rain came on. Made me all nostalgic. Guess this would be the reason they played it(plus, article says they were at the Forum last night). Axl may be a douche extraordinaire, but GnR was really goddamned good.

"I saw "Lucille" at BB King's restaurant in LA (I'm sure he had a lot of them but still) and Eddie Van Halen's red and white striped guitar (again I'm sure it was only on of many) at the Hard Rock Cafe so I'm good with rock memorabilia. The R& HOF isn't exactly on my list of things to visit before I die.
