Hero tag properly applied.

The Florida tag is for when they do the stupid shiat, which is often.

I particularly like how this wasn't a "I stared him down because I knew he was chicken" situation - the baddie had already demonstrated willingness to harm, but that just pissed her off more.

Good on you, abuela.

Good on her. I just don't understand people who beat up on the elderly. You want to rob them, fine. But pistol whipping an old lady? You deserve a kick in the nads for that. The elderly, nuns and clergy. I'm not a religious person but there's something really wrong with a person who'll rob a priest or a nun. 'Sides, they took a vow of poverty, how much money could they possibly have on them???

For once, a fellow Floridian makes me proud. I can only wish and hope I'd have the cojones to do the same.

If she tells you to mow her lawn, just farking mow it and hope that included the privilege of being on her lawn. If you are lucky she'll give you a buck. If you screw up she'll make you cut your own switch.

FTA: Lopez acknowledged she could have been killed, but downplayed any notion of being either brave or heroic. Despite police advice, Lopez said she would take the same actions again.

"When you see your daughter in trouble," she said, "you have to do something."

It's good to know that even at eighty years old you don't back down when it's your kid. My kid's four. Any sort of attack on him would mean the immenent death of someone. But I mostly attribute that to the fact that he's incapable of defending himself. I'd prefer to believe that I'd kill anybody, any time for attacking my kid.Even after he's retired.

I love these kind of stories where old ladies kick the shait out of thugs. When are the thugs going to learn not to fark with old ladies?

Lopez, a longtime fan of Spanish variety show "Sabado Gigante," said she was looking forward to attending a Monday afternoon taping of the show with a friend and asked her daughter to give them a ride.

Ah, geez, what a darn shame! I love that program. The poor abuelas were probably more upset about missing the show than the mugging.

I really do enjoy that show. I have no idea wtf is going on, but it's fun to watch.

Oh give me a farking break. She tugged on the back of the guys shirt, he turned around and "fired a shot that missed", a single one, and then fled.

In other words, she got lucky that the robber actually cared about NOT shooting/killing some old woman, and decided to leave her alone rather than escalate the situation.

... but she's a hero who drove off a gunman with nothing but her cane!!!!! Right.

To All those people saying "But she could've been hurt or killed, that was a stupid thing to do."

It's the stupid things we do that define and enrich our lives sometimes. This woman was blinded by maternal instinct and love for her daughter who'd just been attacked, I would hope ANY parent would do the same! How many times have we read about some 90 lb woman lifting a car off of her kids or some dad fighting off a bear with nothing but his hands when protecting their kids. To me, it is this "stupid" things that define us as being better than our brains tell us we should be.

Buen hecho abuela, buen hecho!

This choked me all up, mainly due to the fact that the daughter was trying to lead the gunman away from her mom, and the mom was trying to eff the gunman up for hurting her daughter.

My daughter basically waged a campaign against a "mean girl" at her summer daycare last year and ran her out on a rail for calling me fat. I guess the girl didn't like sissy, and said whatever she could to Haleigh that she thought would piss her off the most--it worked, but not in the way she thought. My normally sweet-loves-everyone daughter ganged up on this girl with the others-which wasn't hard to do, since she was a di*k to everyone anyway-and she left the school. The girl's mother said MY daughter was a bully, and I thought she was until I found out what was going on that led up to it ahead of time. The girl had been bullying her for the last two summers and she had kept silent, but didn't break out the beotch mode until the girl called ME fat. So crazy. My daughter is my best friend, and she's not quite 10. I'd kill to defend her in a heartbeat, and sleep like a baby the rest of my LIFE.

I totally farking LOVE this abuela. Elderly neighbors are the best. If she were mine, I'd end up mowing her lawn.

Criminals are going to do what they are going to do. There's nothing anyone can do about that. It's the extreme of beating an old lady during your petty crime that I find ridiculous. Look, there are always going to be people who break the law, that's why we have jails. I didn't mean I'm fine with them robbing her, but if that's what you're going to do, why do you have to beat them on top of it???? It wasn't enough to take her purse with what little money she may have?

I kinda figured that's what you meant. Just having some fun.
