I swear its true.

I met my sweet heart down in texas. It was going so great and then I had a great opportunity out in California helping out my friend's business. He was sick at the time and his night club needed work, we were lucky and put a lot of work into it and actually made it turn a profit

We met these two idiots who happened to be good with computers..well its a longer story than that.

Anyway, back before we moved out there I had met with this lawyer, he told me this story about a couple of guys who had made a million dollars in one month. Of course I took his word for well..his word

needless to say, I didn't believe him

2011-12-22 01:54:15 AM
That was until I turned in a favor for my friend at the Hard Rock Hotel right off the strip.

He told me this story about how these guys on the top floor were going crazy and unable to pull it together. Suddenly I realized these might be the guys my friend was talking about.

Long story short, these guys had invented some sort of algorithm that enabled websites to charge by their credit card. Talk about a revolutionary type of idea

Iowa City native... seriously it's a great town.
I have a tendency to defend Iowa when people tear into, but then I realize Iowa City /= the rest of Iowa.

The next cities in line are Fargo, N.D., Lincoln, Neb., Lawton, Okla./Logan, Utah (tie) and Sioux Falls, S.D.

So basically, move to the middle of freaking nowhere.

FTFA: Iowa City made No. 1 for being "home to the University of Iowa, which helps contribute to its 4.7 percent jobless rate and 16.1 percent singles population," the article reads.

So, if you're a 40-year old divorcee who has been laid off from his union job after ten years with the same company, you should move to Iowa City, because it has a high availability of unmarried college girls and plenty of academic jobs above your head.

This study needs more work.

I'm a nerdy Asian American who was an outcast in California. People were always rude and pushy with me. I was called names all the time by White frat guy types in Orange County.

After losing my IT job and getting dumped by my gold digging Vietnamese girlfriend, I took all the money I had and ran away to Iowa City.

In Iowa, I met a supportive hot blonde who became my wife, got an IT job that pays the same as it did in California, but with a substantially lower cost of living, and learned the true meaning of community, friendship, and that the American dream is still not dead.

cheap_thoughts: College towns.

While Larryville is a fairly cool place and the economy is strong enough that there are $7.50 service jobs in windows, wages for anything above that are pathetic even for the midwest. Home of the $15/hour IT/programmer job. Just enough to get people who don't want the hour commute into KC.There are a number of BLS job categories where Lawrence, Columbia, MO, and a couple other similar towns have lower pay than San Juan, Puerto Rico. For various reasons, Lincoln and Iowa City don't have 'big city' salaries but pay comparatively decently.

Usually stories about Iowa at this time in the election cycle are by NY or Calif writers trashing the state because they don't think middle America should have anything to do with electing a president.

Augustana, USF and Cameron make them count as college towns? I mean, I can justify Logan (it's Utah so USU's kind of a big deal comparatively), but two D-2 schools and an NAIA one in USF doesn't really sound all that college-towny to me....

I would like to point out that in Iowa, you can buy hard liquor at pretty much any grocery or convenience store up until 2am, almost every day of the year.

This. We have four real seasons, fuel is cheap, homes are nice, public schools are very good, and if it takes you more than 15 minutes to commute to your job, it's by choice.

/Des Moines resident - would have no problem relocating to Fargo or Lincoln if I had to.

Sioux Falls, SD is a beautiful place. It's a large town with the best of both worlds - a commercial area with malls and stuff, and residential sections that are clean, quiet and nice for the most part. Augustana is actually a very good school and is well-regarded, regardless of its small size. If you can handle extreme cold in the winter and pretty hot-at-times summers, it's a wonderful place. It's a good thing that Sioux Falls has everything you need within the city (well, big town) limits, because just outside of it there is nothing... and I mean NOTHING.

I'm considering moving to the boonies sometime in the next couple of years. Not because of a negative life-changing event, but because it'll be easier to be self-employed if I have a lower cost of living. Iowa and western Michigan are the current leading candidates.

Jubeebee: I'm considering moving to the boonies sometime in the next couple of years. Not because of a negative life-changing event, but because it'll be easier to be self-employed if I have a lower cost of living. Iowa and western Michigan are the current leading candidates.

Based on my own experience, I live in Michigan and I have an aunt and uncle in Iowa City, I'd pick western Michigan. Western Michigan has the Lake Michigan shoreline, a lot of good breweries, and it's only a couple hours to Chicago (my brother used to live in Grand Rapids, he said Chicago was about a 3 hour drive from there). Iowa City is nice (Prairie Lights is a great bookstore, good schools, nice community, good pheasant hunting) but even with the University of Iowa there I've never really seen anything that excites me. I don't know if you ski, but you really can't do that in Iowa. In my opinion, watching the sun set over Lake Michigan with a bottle of Founders in your hand can't be beat. Also, you'd have to worry about cougars in Iowa City (I mean the kind with four legs and a tail). I'm not kidding, my aunt and uncle's kids got sent home from school early back in October because a cougar walked through the playground and they shut down the school because of it. No, they didn't make the kids walk home, each child had to be picked up by an adult inside the building.
