Instead of Brave, they should have called it something safer that won't cause any trademark issues. Maybe something like... The Elder Scrolls. Yeah.

I'm not a baseball fan, but I do have a favourite team... Whoever's playing the Braves.

/Been a fan of those teams since the Tomahawk Chop

jake_lex: If they're worried about movie titles being mistaken for their team, they should have also sued the producers of "Choke."

I think Boston already has that trademarked.

Nobody realize that DISNEY is getting a taste of their own medicine?

Then why didn't they sue J.Lo a few years ago?

RodneyToady: Even if this is the reason, no judge would ever side with Disney over Atlanta from their use of "Brave" in the context of their team or properties. Hell, even if five years from now, Atlanta put out a movie called "Brave," if it was about one of their players/owners/fans etc., nobody would confuse the two.

Its all about marketing, what if they did get the patent on the name and decided to sue the braves for their figures they give away?

No, its the Mets.

Oh and I submitted this with a better headline, this one just sucks.

"Figures" as in bobbleheads or something? The Braves have been using "The Braves" for 100 years. Disney would have no case. Hell, a judge might even sanction Disney for a frivolous lawsuit if they tried.

How?

Boeheimian Rhapsody: Didn't disney also try to copywrite the "Team 6" or whatever seal team took down Bin Laden?

They tried to do what, now?

"According to Disney news blog Stitch Kingdom, the Atlanta Braves aren't big fans of upcoming animated film "Brave.""

Yeah... and the Native Americans aren't big fans of your team's racist name and mascot. At least Pixar isn't offending races and cultural groups in the modern era.

Indians or white guys who are offended on their behalf? Like the Speedy Gonzalez incident (or Cleveland Indians or the using "Native American" instead of the preferred "Indian").

/Brave isn't nearly as bad as "Squaw"

Great. Another film with a strong and masculine female protagonist... *yawn*

Simple solution. Pixar should release this film in late October to avoid any confusion.

that is the white name that you gave to the natives ...

Googled brave and all that came up is the movie.

The Chicago Fire should trademark the word Fire and sue any and everyone that uses it.

I'd say the Braves are being whiney biatches but this is Disney we're talking about, they would probably find a way to sue Atlanta.

Much of Native American culture is offended by sports mascots. Personally as a member of the Catawba tribe, I'm not terribly bothered by most names and mascots, but some are ridiculously offensive. Let's play a stupid little game. Let's see Team: .

Cleveland Indians
San Francisco Yellow Skins (Chinese)
New York Jewboys
Boston Gingerdrunks (Irish)
Texas Rednecks

None of these are acceptable, yet for some reason one ethnic group is targeted complete with ridiculously racist mascots. What on earth makes anyone think that a living culture wants to be associated or represented with a bunch of violent thugs, rapists, drug-users, wife-beaters, thieves, and rich white guys in sports uniforms who pretty much are happy to take the likeness to make cash but don't bother actually paying for it or contributing anything gained from it to say, bettering the lives of people who actually own what they profit from?

You sound upset. Maybe you should go have a lie-down. Here, have a blanket.

Knick(erbocker)s? Fighting Irish?

Texas Rednecks would go over well, and, although I pretty much hate baseball (and especially the Braves and Yankees (another ethnic slur)), I would wear the shiat out of a New York Jews jersey.
