Dear Facebook,

Your app is pretty goddamn terrible, and you manage to actually make it worse with every new iteration... which in itself is quite the feat. However, looking at MySpace and saying "hey, lets work on emulating that" isn't the best idea.

Thanks.

Do people actually still use Facebook? I figured it would have gone the way of MySpace and GeoCities by now.

I'm torn:

I love the that FaceBook is spending millions of dollars to create their new Palo Alto campus. It's creating hundreds of construction jobs, bringing work to local contractors & businesses and even more permanent jobs (about 3k - 4k) which will bring lots of tax dollars to an otherwise semi-depressed industrial area.

but...

I don't approve of their business model and how they make their money.

bummer

Wait, Facebook has a site? I thought it was just an API?

Big whoop... just load up a browser addon like betterfacebook, which I am sure will enhance the controls to wipe it clean.

ah, the old IPO rip-off strategy # 2475
- sacrifice long term user growth for short term revenue growth. It will increase current year revenues and current year-over-year revenue growth, allowing you to increase the already insane business valuation resulting in a larger IPO.

/oh look at the revenue growth over last year!! it will totally continue forever and the business valuation is totally plausible!!

I guess you have to ask yourself which is more important, principals or profit.

BTW, if you pick "profit", you are a horrible human being. That goes for everyone else too.

I think "principals" are more important unless they're caught sayof.

... but isn't considering profit to be the most important thing a principle unto itself? You could never put profit before principles because the sheer act of doing so would be the result of a principle...

I think the point is whether or not profit is you principal principle.
