Pfft, between Orton and Cassel I take Orton 9 times out of 10.

If the miracle occurs and the Chiefs make it to the playoffs and the Bears and Broncos don't, he certainly will have a good laugh... and a bottle of Jack... or 2 - I hear he brushes his teeth with it.

New narrative: the Chiefs are up by 21 with one quarter left. Suddenly, Tebow goes down with an injury and is replaced by Brady Quinn. Quinn courageously rallies the team and wins the game in OT proving once and for all that Catholicism is the one true faith.

It's going to be so awesome when the Chiefs win out, Romeo is hired as the head coach and they sign Orton to a 5/$65m deal.

Really! I am...........COMPLETELY......looking forward to this scenario. There is.....NO potential downside whatsoever!

I'm going to the Chiefs vs. Raiders game on Saturday. It will be walking the fine line between "obnoxiously intoxicated" and "dead, bloated meatbag full of booze". I can't wait!

The way they played last week, if the Chiefs even split the next two games, it's difficult for me to see how the job isn't his. And it would be an easy road for Pioli too; he can hire the guy the players want (from the looks of it), bring in McDaniels as OC, and have McDaniels waiting as a replacement coach if Crennel flames out.

they will pick him off all day long. Our defense knows Orton - they sould be able to read just about everything they throw in front of him..

Should be interesting nevertheless.

Orton isn't good enough to get KC to the next level, but neither is Cassel.

Neckbeard, however, is more inconsistently good than Cassel is inconsistently competent.

If only KC had a good running game this year...

2011-12-21 01:28:14 PM
Based on Orton's performance over the last 2.5 years would make me believe the Chiefs can string together 3 wins in a row.

The thing about Orton is that he is the textbook definition of mediocre. That's not a knock on the guy - he will have a job in football for years to come. It's just that if he's on a good team, they tend to win. If he's on a bad team, the tend to lose. If it's a "meh" team, they go 8-8. He is a zero-sum QB who will never put a team on his shoulders and carry them to victory. The flip side of that is that he'll rarely totally fark the game up for you.

He's always going to be the backup, or the starter that is holding the fort for a rebuilding team until they get a franchise QB.

FTA: Looking at how Orton ran the team last week makes one wonder where the Chicago Bears would be right now had Orton fell to the Bears during the claiming process. Chicago was firing on all cylinders, cruising, well on their way to a playoff spot when Jay Cutler went down and with Caleb Hanie at the helm they haven't won a game.

I hate you, Kansas City.

I don't think Orton would have made much of a difference. Yes, he has experience in Chicago, but he has never played for Martz; this offense is way different (and more complicated) than when he was here.

It's the same reason they didn't sign any free agents. They needed to win right away, and it would take too long to learn the system. It was Caleb or nothing, and hanie has played himself out of ever being considered for a starting job again.

Denver/KC in week 17 is going to be the most hyped pile of mediocre football ever. Tebowmania + Orton coming back...KC better win against Oakland to have a potential playoff spot on the line to bring more hype.

And if Orton wins...

Oh, NOW I get it. heh.

Okay, according to ESPN, if Denver beats Buffalo and Oakland loses either of their last two games, Denver wins the division. Alternatively, if Denver beats KC in week 17 they win the division, regardless of how everyone else does. So Denver looks to be in pretty good shape, but if the last few seasons have taught me anything, it's to never assume Denver won't find a way to royally screw the pooch.

According to Vegas, the Broncos have an 85% chance of making the playoffs (which is considerably better than when Orton was QB).

This injury will make Forte's contract situation even stranger this offseason. The Bears will be even LESS willing to throw A-list money at him, which will make him think a little bit harder about going elsewhere. If a team like the Lions wanted to get him, I think he'd listen.

I don't think a sprained knee is too much of a concern for Forte or Chicago. It's not like he needs to have reconstructive surgery.

I don't know all of it, but my impression was that it wasn't serious enough injury for all that. If it had happened in the first half of the season he might've even returned to play.

I think the bears would be more than willing to pay Forte after he looked great for the majority of the season and Barber hasn't been great in a featured position any more than Bell has. In fact, Barber literally lost the Denver game for them single-handedly not once but twice.

The Bears were willing to pay him last year; they just weren't willing to pay him top money. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think he turned down somewhere in the neighborhood of 16 mil guaranteed.

All I was saying is that being injured won't help his position. Either he'll have to accept something close to the original offer, or he's going to have to go somewhere else. I don't see the Bears changing their minds after an injury, even if it isn't serious. Like a big game of chicken.

And for the record, $6.75 for a beer at a stadium is pretty reasonable compared to a LOT of stadiums. Yes, it's Bud Light, but still....

McDickbag in KC would be a dream come true. Actually I'd prefer to see him go to San Diego with personnel decision powers.

It's amazing what a hall of fame QB can do for a coach. Shanahan was the Mastermind when he had Elway and Joe Montana. With McNabb and Grossman he's just a sad little man with an uncanny resemblance to a weasel.
