So the supposed Constitutionalists are going to go with a guy who openly said he would abolish courts and arrest judges that didn't rule to his liking and who said putting checks on the Presidents power is dangerous.

OK, then.

Tea partiers, here is your chance to bring back small and fiscally responsible government - elect Newt Gingrich, the one who stands way above the crowd!

Keep spreading the words. Gingrich is the only conservative, experienced, able and a heavy-weight fighter that will deliver us from the evil obumo empirre!

"Things" is value neutral and includes everything from "giving away free puppies" to "laying waste to the land and sowing salt so that nothing will ever grow again."

So, yeah, he'll do "things."

I thought the teabaggers just want a robo-signer that will rubber stamp whatever comes out of the teabagger congress?

FTA When the GOP lost seats in 1998, Newt resigned not just as Speaker, but from Congress. As is often the case, Newt took upon himself the mantle of responsibility for failings in the party that were much deeper than one man.

That's not exactly how I remember Newt's career as speaker ending.

These people don't live on the same farking planet as the rest of us do they.

The truly scary thing is how now that will become the "real" history to the tea party. This is a literal cases of The Party altering the past to fit current political needs.

Romney is the most CEO like of them all. He's got the least baggage and an impressive record. His hair is awesome. He will be the candidate. But, unless he picks Condi Rice or some other "conservative" leader to be the heavyweight conservative influence in his cabinet (or Obama just flubs it badly in the campaign), Obama wins this election. Nothing against Romney, but Obama remains mostly untouched by the scandals in his administration and the economic woes that continue. I don't think Obama is really enthusiastic about another term either, but I think he wins it.

My opinion will change 200 times in the next 300 days.

Ronald Reagan is not here to save us. Sarah Palin will not save us. It won't be Mike Huckabee or any of the other wanna-bes who have figured out how to monetize their narrow popularity into fat TV and radio gigs but could never win the GOP nomination.

Isn't that, definitively, Newt Gingrich?

Doing things like destroying the Constitution? I see how Teabaggers would like that. They just want to keep the 2nd and 10th Amendments and fark all the rest.

If by "do things" you mean "undermine the Constitution, the ideals of the party, and people"...

I'm actually a bit surprised that the article managed to avoid the use of "corrupt" anywhere.

Newt has no desire to be the candidate. He is on a book tour. I would bet $10,000 that he's more unhappy than Mitt Romney with his recent rise in polls.

What would be *AWESOME* is if he keeps gaining ground and has to get crazier and crazier in case he accidentally becomes the nominee.

Newt probably figured he'd be able to bow out gracefully by now, book sales happily increased and his relevancy confirmed for another few years.

Nah, he timed it correctly. He hit the apex of the curve and he's sinking again, just in time for front-runner 4. And the laymen will still buy his books.

By "things", do you mean "cheat on, then divorce his wife while she nearly died from cancer while fighting against other people that love each other who want to get married"? Because then, yeah, Newt's definitely your guy. Also, he was chastising Clinton for having an affair the entire goddamned time.

He wants to remove judges that make rulings that he disagrees with.

This is the guy you want to put into power? He's a scumbag and a potential tyrant.

I dunno. His support isn't bumping up at all even with the endless rollercoaster of anyone but Romney. I have no idea how this one is going to end up but a brokered convention seems likely.

The flaw in his cunning plan is that the crazier he keeps getting the more tea party followers he'll get, not less. If he really wants to drop like a rock, he needs to act like a moderate with some sense of how government actually works - being reasonable is a sure fire way to make the base run away.

The narrative is more important than the reality. Kind of like when Palin decried the activist Supreme Court but couldn't actually name a decision from the past 35 years that she actually disagreed with.

Actually, brussels sprouts can be awesome. At this place in SF, Wayfare Tavern, they do roasted brussels sprouts with smoked bacon and pommerey, and it is fan-friggin-tastic.

Newtie is just an awful excuse for a human being.

At this point, I kinda hope they nominate Gingrich and he wins. Might as well just burn the motherfarker to the ground now and start over instead of dragging out these death throes for another thirty years.

No, not really serious, just in a shiatty mood.

Iowa's Rep. Steve King probably has best summarized the Republican presidential field by saying that none of them is perfect.

Understatement of the year.
