Not as mythical as Amy Winehouse's talent.

Except Amy Swinehouse, hack, does not belong in the same sentence as Morrison, Hendrix and Joplin.

Rock 'n' rollers weren't the only ones included; the group also featured crooners, death metal stars, and Muppet actors.

I never got the Joplin love/deification. I like maybe 2 of her songs and I've heard those thousands of times. Meh. Meh, I say.

My sentiments exactly.

Meh.

Same with Morrison. Bad poet is a bad poet and a crappy singer.

I like the doors, but Morrison's poetry was about as good as the poetry I wrote when I was fifteen, which frankly is about as good as the poetry I write now (none). Janis was decent, but as some one above said, it's just a handful of songs that you ever hear unless you are hardcore. And Hendrix was a loss that will never be replaced. Kurt and Amy no loss.

You just included her in... oh someone already did it.

/also, Morrison, Hendrix and Joplin were hugely *influential*, but they weren't geniuses, making things out of whole cloth, either -- they were the sum of their influences (musical and chemical)
//and Joplin is just difficult to listen to for more than a song or two at a time

FTA: "Research debunking the theory was released Tuesday in the Christmas edition of the British Journal of Medicine, because apparently nothing says the holidays like studies about dead musicians."

Now that, my friends, is some high quality snark.

Exactly.

You can't call Amy Winehouse a "hack" then say Jim Morrison was a legend.

And tomorrow will be nine since Joe Strummer passed away.

My two favorite musicians passed on the same day.

Translation: A soundtrack for a Muppet movie or TV show was #1 on the charts in the UK at some point.

But the 500 Club is still real, right?

Can't believe someone actually did a study on that. Hope they didn't spend TOO much Government money on that one.

I didn't realize the "27 club" was supposed to be the riskiest age for anyone, musicians included. I just thought it refered to the performers that happen to die at that age.
