Heh. My wife loves that film.

/It's not that bad.
//yes, only saw it when she wanted me to watch it.

I liked it.

Hey, who else saw that they're Broadwaying it, like every other Disney movie ever?

I doubt he's going to fall on his sword.

He's got way worse than this to be embarrassed about.

I guess he and China are done... professionally.

As much as Christian Bale says he's embarrassed by that movie, it did play a big part in the huge internet fanbase he had until he started getting high profile roles in his adult years.

Who says communists aren't comedians?

2011-12-21 10:21:28 AM
Oh noes! How dare he remind the rest of the world that China is still a communist dictatorship that regularly abuses its citizens!

"Batman" star Christian Bale should feel embarrassed for trying to visit a human rights activist while he was in China to promote a movie the country has submitted for an Oscar, a government spokesman said Wednesday.

Someone who writes professionally should be embarrassed to have a sentence like that go to print.

So it was his dream to speak to this guy? Why'd he go to China? Should've gone to Santa Fe. Dreams come true, yes they do, in Santa Fe.

The movie centers on the 1937 sacking of the eastern city of Nanjing, known in the West as the "Rape of Nanking," and has been described by some critics as hewing to official propaganda portraying Chinese as heroic victims and Japanese as one-dimensional cartoon villains.

I'm not sure why, but that particular inclusion at the end of the article threw me for a loop.

/"Misunderstanding of Nanking?"
//"We were invited. Tea and dumplings were served"

True Fact: After seeing Empire of the Sun, I walked out of the theater saying "that kid is going to be a star someday."

Yeah, trying to downplay in any way what the Japanese did is pretty wrong.

I don't see how anybody could have walked out of that movie not thinking that.

Silly China, don't they know Americans have no shame. We don't feel shame at all. The only people who should be ashamed in America are the poor.

I was going to say, American movie stars must be worrying to the Communist regime. They have no shame, so it's really hard to stop them from doing things you don't like.

Not hairsplitting. My grandparents are from Wales and there's a huge...

Actually, he from Wales.

Wayne 985: In fairness, he's lived in America for a couple decades now.

True, but most times when you hear him speak in interviews, he's purposely uses an American accent. He really speaks with a Welch accent (new window)

Under "Thar be monsters...", just look for the waterspout.

/He tasks me!
/Guilt is different than shame. Americans feel guilt, but are pretty shameless. Ask for forgiveness, not for permission, and all that.

Funny. Stereotypical generalizations against Americans are never considered racist. Luckily, we don't give a shiat.

So which countries are a race and which aren't? It's fuzzy.

No countries are a race. Some countries are so racially homogenous that people use the words like it means the race, but that only works in ignorant, uneducated &/or bigoted company.

With regards to his origins, he was born in Wales, but raised in England.

As a longtime fan, I've sat through some pretty shiatty movies because he was in them; he does seem to try his best, though. True, Newsies isn't very good, but that's partly the reason I love it.

Christian Bale isn't one of those Hollywood people who do it for the publicity. He comes from a family of activists. He does this type of stuff all the time. He just doesn't do it for the press. Which is why you don't really hear about him doing it.

lol

Whadda know....two wrongs really don't make a right. Especially when they're in one sentence.
