Awesome McPherson sounds...well, awesome.

I would point out that Theophilus has been used in the Isles for centuries (at least one in the musicians in the court of Charles II was named that). So your objection is that they actually just said it in English instead of Latin? I thought most Farkers hated the use of foreign words.

What about the three 17th century Puritans named Praise-God Barebone, Christ-came-into-the-world-to-save Barebone, and If-Christ-had-not-died-thou-hadst-been-damned Barebone, aka Damned Barebone?

I worked for Barbon Insurance, named for the last guy. He invented fire insurance after the great fire of London.

We called our son Logan Donnchaidh Daniel Sinclair MacLeod. Think anyone will guess that he's Scottish?

...Might have been. The Elon I used as an African name. However, if you name a man Elon, it is a Hebrew name meaning "mighty oak."

Ahhh Gaelic names, sound so pretty but spelled so freaking badly no one outside of the isles can pronounce them. I'm kinda sad I can't name my daughters Siobahn and Niamh :(.

I wonder if last name's as first names are a trend that hit the isles yet. My cousin named her son Leighton after the Flyers hockey player and a friend of mine named her daughter Kerrington. It's a trend I can't stand, along with making shiat up, does anyone else feel the same? Maybe it's because I used my last name as a nickname for a good part of my life.

However, my other cousin takes the cake, she name her daughter Braelyn Jane, yup BJ.

Exactly right - there are children with both these names in my neices year at school. There is also a Honey, a Tuesday Plum and a Basil-James. Yes, they hyphenated Basil. Makes you long for the old days when the Siobhans and Mhairaids got all the extra Hs and were grateful for it.

Sorry, I was just pointing out that Farkers get all in a tizzy over people not giving their children dirt-common Anglophone names, but are now complaining that someone actually gave their child an English name - as opposed to an untranslated misspelling of a Hebrew word. If they actually lived by their oh-so-perfect principles, they would shun any man who didn't spell his name יוֹחָנָן , but what they are really saying is that they think all names descended from on high in 1834, and any changfes before or since are lies told by those not sufficiently pasty, penised, and in the closet

When? I, for one, like unique foreigny names. It's more fun than meeting a "Richard" or a "John."

My limited knowledge of Gaelic leads me to imagine that those two names are what became the modern surnames "Donnelly" and "Sloane." Am I close?
