It's important to remember that Newt is only a Catholic of Convenience. In his heart he's still a philandering, lying, pompous, arrogant, weaselly sack of shiat.

I don't know why they're complaining.

They already have a conservative candidate who's been happily married for 20 years, has strong ties to his church and provides a great role model as a father of two.

Well, in Newt's defense...um, I...um...

Y'know, f*ck it, I can't even pretend that Newt isn't an incredibly loathsome piece of walking, talking feces. I'm physically incapable of even feigning empathy with that sack of crap for a few lulz.

Well, he certainly sounds like a lot of the Catholics I know.

Good shot Green.

Oh very good shot.

Ignorant ideologues, fundamentalists, hypocrites, liars and sociopaths...

This is what the GOP base asked for, and that is exactly what they got.

They have no one to blame but themselves.

They should be ashamed of themselves, but, of course, these people have no shame, decency, or honor.

The thing I don't here is why is Santorum more credible than Bachmann?

He has a penis. It's covered in a light-brown, frothy mixture of some sort, but he has one.

Or they could just say fark it, and spend the day at home praying for gay people and abortion doctors to go to Hell, or whatever it is fundies do in their spare time.

2011-12-21 11:02:38 AM
Santorum is also Catholic, but he only preaches about wedge issues like homosexuality and abortion. He conveniently forgets all the 'liberal' teachings, like taking care of the poor, the teachings against unregulated capitalism, the USCCB's decades long fight for universal healthcare, etc.

Exactly. FTFA:

Bachmann declined, the source said, noting to Vander Plaats that she has consistently polled ahead of Santorum in the race and still does.

Other than this being the first time Bachmann has been right about anything, it is also notable in the sense that it really makes no sense to ask Bachmann to drop out in favor of Rick Santorum. She does poll higher. I think it's blatant sexism.

sociopathic Catholic womanizer???

Clinton's on the ballot? I didn't know he was Catholic.

Politics has been the refuge of larcenous philanderers for a long time, but the Republicans went pro. The evangelicals like them because of what they say, not what they do. I guess the evangelicals figure half a loaf is better than none. The problem is that everyone else sees the disconnect, and it makes the politician and anyone who backs them, in spite of their serious flaws, look bad.

2011-12-21 11:21:27 AM
I'm thinking that Marcus probably has a lot of first hand experience with how dangerous Santorum can be but isn't willing to share it with Michele.

If we accept the Evangelical premise that the world is coming to an end and so forth, why aren't they voting for the democratic candidate that will help tilt the earth towards a dark age of unrestrained socialist lust and athiesm or whatever they say will precede armeggedon.

Is this a ploy to drive the religious right out of the Republican party?

I mean, when faced with having to vote for a guy that isn't even Christian!

Because most people don't really know who he is. I bet if you went up to 10 people and asked them (not on the internet but in the walking around world) only 4 would know his name. 1 would know what state he comes from, maybe.

Anything that minimizes their influence is a good thing.

2011-12-21 12:20:16 PM
Let's see ... they run an affable war veteran and a pretty lady against a black guy with a funny name ... and LOSE.
Next go 'round, they can't find ANY candidate with mainstream sense and appeal - everyone's description is followed by a "but ... "

Maybe the straight white "fark you, I got mine" evangelicals aren't the American backbone they thought they were. Sure, they're fighting tooth-and-nail as they go down, but eventually, they'll be just another group.

So - got S&G let's fantasize that Bachmann wins the election.

Just WHAT is Marcus going to do for 4 years - be celibate? He can't cruise anywhere without the SS following him, can't have play dates over, etc. I suppose there's Internet pr0n...

Having the SS around didn't stop JFK, Clinton or anyone else from farking whomever they liked. They're professionals who know how to be discreet.

Bucky Katt: GOP theocrats have always been desperately stupid

a bit of a carryover from the other newt thread, but there cannot actually be a theocracy, in the end it would be some sort of fascist state. a theocracy implies that God would be the head of state, which we know (due to being human) would actually be ran by humans (who fail often and sometimes do not learn from their ways).
