A point on the beauty-grade was found to be worth on average three percent in wages, with the results were more clearly defined for men than women - although there was a distinct linear correlation for everyone, said Pfeifer.

... not that it'll stop people immediately leaping on the 'men are sexist pigs who only hire cute women' bandwagon

clearly this is evidence of a defined and coordinated gay agenda. I'd say that hannity was right all along, but that steel-jawed adonis is at the top of his industry despite being a college dropout, so he's probably part of the conspiracy.

A really hot (male) friend of mine skipped his English requirements in college through what I can only now describe as preferential wackiness. But he was a friend of mine, so I'm weirdly not upset about it.

I skipped college and have a good job, therefore I must be hot.

And just like the degree, your appearance will be worthless by the time you're 40.

FTA: The interviewer also ranked each interviewee's physical attractiveness from one to 11 - one being the least attractive, 11 being the most attractive.

Why don't you just make ten more attractive and make ten be the top number and make that a little more attractive?

Damn skippy. I dropped out of college yet make more than most of my college educated buddies. And and a pretty boy, I am not. Dead sexy, maybe, but not attractive.

Funny, I'm a 46 yo male, I was christmas shopping with my mother yesterday, (yes I still enjoy her company) and we were discussing this very subject - , I was considered to be tall blond and handsome. all but a couple of my hiring bosses were female. I lost my job last year and now am having a tough go of it. Maybe because I'm tall grey and fat. your point is valid. same with my accounting degree, it means nothing.

This one goes to 11. It allows for someone being 1 more attractive

My view on this is this is a result of sexism lawsuits. If somebody has a choice of two women with similar qualifications and one is a '6' while the other is an '9', of course one would want to hire the '9', but then worry about the '6' suing about not being hired because she was discriminated against.
Usually men care less, so they are less likely to sue.

I guess it depends what kind of job it is? Jobs where you have to interact with a client - lawyers, bartenders, salespersons, etc. etc. directly benefit from greater attractiveness. In science and engineering I would think you'd want to take the uglier one, because in general they're smarter. They had to get by with good qualities other than attractiveness.

The age-old adage applies to both men and women: of smart, hot, and sane, you can never have all three.

Whether TFA is true or not, my anecdotal experience as a university instructor has taught me that certainly the bulk of the "hot" girls have skated by on their looks their whole lives. Then they come to me and are shocked...SHOCKED! to discover some people care more for intellect than appearance.

I've given many deserving "hot" students Fs for their efforts.

Now, hot and smart...those girls are trouble.

Believe me, the only "wishful" thing about it is wishing the hot ones would grow some brains.
Or not. My lack of attraction keeps me employed. That and the fact that the University wants to employ more people like me, who work for half what tenured faculty do for basically the same work. I wonder if being hot gets you tenure?

As a former college instructor, this is hogwash.

The looks of a girl extend to her grades. If a girl is dedicated enough to stay slim, workout and buy nice clothes, she is also going to care about her grades. It's all part of her facade.

The girls that are fat and ugly don't also care about their grades, as they don't care about their appearance or their health.

However, there are exceptions to what I said. Some girls are fat because of some bad habits or their environment but try and create a nice facade and grades. Some hot girls are because they got caught up in some sports and hotness when you're young comes from being slim and fit, and don't care about grades. But, these are exceptions.

I've got a CSB

when I was in school a friend of mine who was drop dead hot got pulled over for going 45 in a 30 at nighttime. She didn't have her license, nor her registration, or proof of insurance. She told the officer that she had been having trouble with her car and was almost out of gas. The officer took her to the nearest gas station, bought her a gallon of gas, drove her back to her car, and gave her a warning. And she was unfazed by this, didn't think it was unusual. The next day when she told this story I thought, Damn, I would still be sitting in jail right now and owe 3000 dollars!

First time I realized that the beautiful live in a different world than the rest of us.

I am the 99% (of ugly)

CSB out

Except for the ones whose facades actually involved the suppression of their abilities? I'll give you the whole "people dedicated to image will take it to all areas of their life," but if that's a good thing or not depends on what image they're trying to live up to. Let's not forget that always picking the easiest major and courses is another way to "care about grades."

When you're a college-age girl, you don't need to work out to be slender, it just happens naturally. Also, if you're an ugly woman then it doesn't matter how much you work out or how slim you are, or how well you dress - you're a farking pig and you may as well just kill yourself now.

Or, as an educator, you already have come in with a subconscious bias against those less "beautiful" and treat them unfairly. The pretty ones get more time to make up a test or two, the ugly ones...not so much.

So the interpretation of your observations are already blinded because you want to see yourself as nicer than you are.

Not saying you are...just keep that in mind. It happens...a LOT.

I am an engineering student and i got 3 hours of sleep during finals week this semester. I looked like shiat on the last day, i didnt shave, i had wrinkled shiatty old clothes, my eyes were bloodshot, and my complexion was not looking good. I did well. However, i know many women at my school that will flat out admit without guilt or remorse that they got credit for classes because of their looks. One girl got her C in chemistry changed to an A after talking with the teacher after finals. One girl got an A for a project she didn't even do (she is a 34 F). Other girls i know talked about how they specifically dress up when they see their professors. If you go to the math tutor center at my school you will not get help there unless you are a chick.

Also, if you are a 20-25 year old woman and you are anything less than a 7, you are below average because it is almost effortless to be good looking. You have to try pretty hard to find any that are below a 5 at my school.

The entitlement that some people receive in our country will always amaze me.

Nothing new here.

tl;dr version: Give it time. Unless the pretty people have actual skills, they'll be traded in for younger, prettier people once they hit their forties.

Long Version:

My personal experience bears this out:

Air Force (twenty five years ago): Hot young airmen (male or female) got tapped for "below the zone" promotions all of the time. With very few exceptions, said hotties weren't particularly competent in their career fields.

College: Like so many others have reported, hot little coeds would wink, blush, and giggle their way to grade bumps and around work. Thing is, I saw it happen with the hot guys working the female professors, too, so it was definitely not a gender-related thing.

Career: College is nothing compared to the corporate world. "Hot" trumps "competence" every single day of the week.

One telling example comes from my years as an IT engineer. I worked with a male-model Team Lead who banked entirely on his charm and looks. Not a bad choice on his part. This was a guy who literally made otherwise professional and competent women act like fourteen year old girls meeting whatever the hell a "Bieber" is. His charm got him a lot of good word-of-mouth, and he used that to his advantage. Within months of my joining his team, he had taken to showing up in the office maybe two days a week, traveling constantly on the company dime to "conferences" in Las Vegas and San Francisco, and generally being an absentee manager. Meanwhile, I managed the team, ran the projects, and kept the work moving forward.

The punchline: Within two years he got promoted to an executive office, half of our staff got laid off, and I was left to handle all of the work.

Beauty, as they say, is only a temporary tyranny. My former lead-turned-executive lost his job just as he was having problems keeping that middle-aged bloat off of his frame. He's since had a hell of a time finding work. Other "beautiful people" I've met over the years have pretty much ended up in the same boat. (Well, save the actually competent ones, that is...).

So, yes, it does eventually catch up with them. You just have to be patient.
