Well, there are other factors. Cost of the show plays a huge part of whether a show will survive or not. Community's costs aren't outrageous like Arrested Developments... Therefore, there's a lot more chance it will survive one more season if fans make an outcry..

Secondly, Community's ratings aren't actually that bad when you consider it's going up against one of the biggest ratings giants on network TV, The Big Bang Theory... And that's even more detrimental to Community because much of the targeted audience overlaps.

I'm just hoping the hiatus is partially there to get people to spread the word - but also to off-set it from new episodes of Big Bang Theory... Or that NBC just moves it to another time. Having it go up against Big Bang Theory directly is just idiotic.

I never said that now did I? The quality of the show doesn't matter, it's the advertising dollars it generates.
Its kind of interesting the people who watch tv, will probably never buy half the crap that is on advertised on tv, but the ones who skip through on a dvr or watch online probably will.

Pretty much this. Community's target audience tends to tivo/dvr episodes and watch them later. Unfortunately Nielson doesn't recognize those numbers, and that's the archaic system that the networks and ad agencies use to determine the value of commercial airtime.
