I wonder how much he, or his company, donated to the school. Someone bought himself a vanity coaching gig. Although if he donates some more money so the AD can hire intelligent coordinators it might not be the worst thing ever.

It's another word for rooster. In other words, they wanted a nickname that was unique but still reminded people that they were in the same state as the Cocks.

Bennett was 29-28 in the last five seasons but 63-39 overall. He was the only coach in the program's history. I'd say that's a heckuva coaching job for a little-known FCS team that didn't have a program prior to 2003.

Sounds to me like Coastal Carolina is acting a little too big for its britches. It's not 'Bama. 29-28 might not make it for one of the big boys, but this is Coastal Carolina for crying out loud.

He was the head coach of the Omaha Nighthawks before the UFL became origami.

I was down at CCU for a history conference last year. I was honestly more impressed with Francis-Marion than Coastal Carolina. CCU has nice facilities and has a way better adjacent town, but that's about it. It seemed to be stocked with older faculty that were semi-retired, and found a place to teach near their retirement community.
