How about paying for the pay lanes on 85 so I don't have to sit in the crappy traffic that those damn things caused?

Still wouldn't get me to care about the NBA.

Really, I thought the state already paid the tolls when dropping off NBA fans to collect trash on the side of the highway....

Are the people responsible for this thing out of a job at least? If this were China, there would've been executions by now.

Hey, at least they stopped them from being built on 75. Small victories, at least.

They should have tried paying peoples admission to Thrashers games.

Yanno, I don't get ASG. Just a month ago they were all ready to sell the Hawks and the rights to the arena (the buyer walked away from the deal due to the lockout). I suppose this stunt is their way of doing what they can to salvage their investment, but you can't really take them serious anymore (in the sense that they care about the franchise).

Can you still buy season tickets to the Thrashers?

Are their child support payments up to date?

Hey, that's pretty cool! Seems like it was a surprise to the drivers & that's nice, whether you like basketball or not.

Also, a toll booth with arms sound positively ancient *flies off on space scooter*

Come one, it was only what, $100 million bucks that was spent to convert the I-85 high occupancy lane into a high occupancy toll lane? That'll be paid off it what, 200 years?

/No, I am NOT getting a Peach Pass, thank you very much.

Question for northern Ohio Farkers:

If LeBron James did this for the turnpike, would his standing in Cleveland improve much?

Gah, those suck! I had to go out to Fry's on Saturday and I sat in traffic pretty much the entire OTP length of I-85 in both directions. Nobody fricking uses them. I can't imagine living in Gwinnett and having to use that every day. I'd want to kill somebody.

I'm wondering if the firm that sold GDOT the equipment is the same firm that calculated the expected revenues and congestion reductions.

You comin' from Decatur? Take 29 to Pleasant Hill (just not when Berkmar starts or lets out, else you'll be stuck at the the 29/Pleasant Hill intersection for a half hour)

The arms at the toll booth also have advertisements on them. So you get to stare at that while you toss 50 cents into the basket. Meanwhile, the bonds to build the project have been paid back in full and the State Road and Tollway Authority will have enough reserves at the end of 2011 to cover the costs to improve the I-85 corridor.

But the state voted last year to keep these toll booths open through 2020, where the government will collect these new tolls. These will be used to fund other road projects.

All this after the state "promised" to cease tolls in the 400 corridor altogether and tear down the booths at the end of the year.

/We never promised anything
//Now STFU and GBTW, citizen.

Oh wow. Did they think no one would notice?

That sounds somewhat similar to what they've done in DFW. They paid off one of our tollways & pulled out the tollbooths. Too bad they replaced them with fancypants cameras & lights to collect your tolls that way. So now, they don't have to pay booth-workers and they can use that money to "fund other roadway projects." Hurray?
