If Obama didn't go back in time and force Bush to start the Iraq War, none of this would have happened.

Ennuipoet: Ahh, blood and treasure well spent!

Yep. especially since we caught all those 9/11 hijackers there, and shut down their nuclear weapons program, and stopped them from sending VX gas into Florida.

Afghanistan will be the same way, pretty much the only time the afghans stop killing each other is when there are foreigners around to kill.

Stand or fall, it's a matter for the Iraqi people to work out now.

Meh, they'll work it out and when the dust settles one of them will run things and it will be some form of government we like or don't like and depending on how that comes out, the American people will be pissed as shiat about something like that being allowed again... for a few generations at least.

I hear the new guy is already starting construction on his palace. Got his family lined up for some cabinet posts as well.

Wonder why they need all those tanks and soldiers in Baghdad?

Wait, you're telling me that farking with the governments in the Middle East DOESN'T WORK? It's always worked so well in the past, and has never bitten us in the ass before.

Agreed. We should just stay there permanently; it's cheap and no one gets hurt.

Egoy3k: Afghanistan will be the same way, pretty much the only time the afghans stop killing each other is when there are foreigners around to kill.

Nah, I think they've continued to kill each other just fine this whole time, what with the roadside bombs, honor killings, etc.

I can't wait until that whole area is a radioactive wasteland. It's coming, mark my words. Between Iran and Israel, someone's going to launch.

It was never our intent to sent up a stable govt. in that country. Any country with three "tribes" of people is never going to be stable. Especially when the big difference is how they all practice the same religion.

2011-12-20 11:43:52 AM
So a Vice President allegedly plots to destabilize his country to advance his personal beliefs, and they decide to hold him accountable?

Methinks Americans could learn from their example....

2011-12-20 11:44:22 AM
My money is that the shi'ites take over and turn the country into another sharia theocracy where the women are oppressed and forced to wear burqas and give up all the freedom and rights that they enjoyed under Saddam's rule and our occupation.

Yeah, but the arms manufacturers made out like bandits, and that's what really counts, right?

I wonder if foreign policy should be decided by the general ignorant populace's current fashion of opinion or should we use D&D dice?

Peter Galbraith - former U.S. diplomat: January 2003 the President invited three members of the Iraqi opposition to join him to watch the Super Bowl. In the course of the conversation the Iraqis realized that the President was not aware that there was a difference between Sunni and shiate Muslims. He looked at them and said, "You mean...they're not, you know, there, there's this difference. What is it about?"

Did we ever get paid back for the war costs from the oil proceeds, or did everyone in Washington forget about that?

Kinda' woulda' made sense, since that whole region is an uncivilized craphole and it woulda' been nice to at least make them pay for their chance at election freedoms & the rule of law.

/Real law, not Sharia garbage.

So we fark their country up in 16 different ways and they owe us?

I've been predicting a separate Kurdistan for a while now. Turkey and Iran will have none of it though, and I'm guessing that opposition to such a move would at least temporarily unite the Sunni and shiate citizens.

We seem to be stopping the natural flow of nationalism to parts of the world where we don't think we'll like the results. It was bloody in Europe, it'll be bloody in the Middle East.

I'd say they owe us for 9/11, but that's just me.
