When I stated working at my job at a university 3/4 of the students where older than me and I had student workers 3 years older than me. Now when the tours and orientations happen I see parents younger than me or my age and being a typical male I check out both mom and daughter

I'm only 22 and what really makes me feel old is that Just For Me commercial with Emmitt Smith sitting in a nursing home, old and gray, in his rocking chair.

/Yes, not only is Emmitt Smith retired, but he's certifiably old.

Mmm. Topanga.

What's even more amusing is the fact that in about 20 more years, there will be an entire generation of old farks with walkers, colostomy bags, and dentures listening to Megadeth while they gum a plate of steamed whitefish and creamed corn before going to bed at 5:30.

2011-12-20 12:14:55 AM
I'm 42 and I actually did that last weekend.

Well I was napping and the neighbor kids have decided my porch is the place to be, and they love to climb the tree in the front yard. Which is fine and all, but I was napping and my bedroom window is right there, sheesh.

So after being woken up half a dozen times, I got up, opened the door, and half-asleep just yelled "YOU KIDS GET OFF MY LAWN!" and went back to bed.

You have no idea how good that felt.

The pepsi girl: only woman whose dimples could suck the chrome off a bumper.

/when I was a kid: four channels on TV, no car seats or airbags and few seat belts, single land line telephones, when you ordered something from a catalog you'd be lucky to get it in 6 weeks, video games were called pinball machines

I could say a million things about how my childhood, high school years, and college years differed from those in this day and age. I'm just glad I'm not a kid today.

The 10th anniversary edition of Toy Story made me feel really old, and that was 6 years ago.

meh, 42, married, no kids. We do whatever we want, when we want. Sometimes that is go to bed at 9pm, sometimes it's pub crawl and ganja till 4am, and sometimes it Vegas for the hell of it. That list didn't make me feel old at all, nor does playing vinyl records on my turntable, or saying I worked on MS-DOS 6.

Now, going to the doctor these days, that's a whole different story.

When I was younger
Living confusion and deep despair
When I was younger
Living illusion of freedom and power

When I was younger
Full of ideas and broken dreams (my friend)
When I was younger ah hah
Everything simple but not so clear

Living on borrowed time
Without a thought for tomorrow
Living on borrowed time
Without a thought for tomorrow

Now I am older
The more that I see the less that I know for sure
Now I am older
The future is brighter and now is the hour

Living on borrowed time
Without a thought for tomorrow
Living on borrowed time
Without a thought for tomorrow

Good to be older
Would not exchange a single day or a year
Good to be older
Less complications everything clear

Living on borrowed time
Without a thought for tomorrow
Living on borrowed time
Without a thought for tomorrow

Just so you know... you're not the only one(s).

Well... except for the Vegas and ganj, but that's mostly due to proximity and testing prospects...

This. I didn't know who/what a good chunk of the things on this list were and didn't give a fark about the rest.

i realized i was old when i displayed the album year in iTunes. the majority of my music there is from CD rips and there is nothing newer then 1998. wow.

I didn't know who those people were then and I don't now. Going to bed tired and getting up tired makes me feel old. Where did my energy go?

It's good to see that the oldest Hanson kid finally grew into his teeth.

2011-12-20 09:43:50 AM
fark that- my earliest memory is my parents waking me up for the Apollo 11 moon landing. I didn't really understand what it was- just some blurry photos on TV. That was 42 farking years ago.

The other one that always drives it home for me is when I mention 9/11 in class my first-year students don't always understand the visceral reaction- they were only 8 after all. A few more years and they won't have experienced it at all- it will just be something they read about in a book.

OMG, my kids are old enough to remember some of the items on that list

awesomeness. i completely forgot about that

I think once you have kids, you must enter some kind of time warp. My oldest is 13, and if you had asked me about a lot of the stuff on that list that happened 12-15 years ago, off the top of my head I would have probably guessed that it was 5 or 6 years ago. With a little thought I'm sure I could come a lot closer, but damn. It just doesn't seem that long ago.

The other way I know I'm getting old? I've worked at a K-12 school since I graduated from college. When I started, I would see a girl and think "Damn, that chick is hot!". Now I think "Damn, I'll bet that girl's mom is hot!!".

Here's a thought: The kids who're turning 21 right now and can buy liquor and everything - they've never known the 80s. They weren't around for the awesome cartoons, the ridiculously bad fashion, the fall of the Berlin wall, the collapse of the Soviet Union, the Exxon Valdez spill, and the Challenger Shuttle disaster. Everything that signified childhood and youth for a lot of farkers, they simply weren't around for.

The kids who are about a year away from puberty (11) have never known a pre-9/11 world. They've never not had to fear terrorism.

someone look up leona smith, who lived in san francisco ca 20 years ago, and ask her how old she feels...

I actually was discussing this with an old ex-girlfriend just last night. She's married, got a kid she adores, while I still just smoke pot and play video games and ramble on Fark.

But I had the different opinion. I think having kids gives you a way to mark time, as you see them grow from helpless infants to cute little monkeys to angry sullen teenagers to living in your basement.

I don't have that. I play PS2 games and drink another Busch and post another stupid link on Fark and it's always 2001 to me.

Fun fact they missed - the boy from Jurassic Park played one of the lead roles in the HBO series 'The Pacific' (Sledgehammer).

Not much of this stuff made me feel old, I guess since I didnt pay attention to it when it was around. Goosebumps? Surge soda?

Now - my back, neck, shoulders, etc from being a runner for 30 of my 42 years? Ugh.

A "does this make you feel old" article in which I don't recognize most of those cultural references because when they were relevant I WAS ALREADY OLD.

When TV finally came to our town,3 channels( good weather permitting),no seat belts at all, party lines, pinball machines a work of the devil, and oh yeah, the catalog went straight to the outhouse. You should get off my lawn, kid.
