This looks extremeley...different? The tone and story structure looks completely different from The Dark Knight. I don't know what to make of it.

Already saw the bootleg version, but it's nice to see it in HD.

miss diminutive: Bruce Wayne looks old. I think I saw some grey in his hair.

It supposedly takes place 8 years after the events of Dark Knight.

Oh. Well that would explain it, thanks!

Which would mean he's about 40 right? Which is pretty old to be jumping off rooftops and beating up criminals with your bare fists.

At least I did Friday when I saw it. If you haven't seen the prologue yet, it did a good job showing what kind of villain Bane was going to be. Like DamnYankees said, the tone and feel of the movie feels different. Either way, this is a day one IMAX viewing for me.

I wonder how long it will take for the usual suspects to show up and tell us all how we're the worst people in the history of forever for liking this movie and we should really listen to why they think Nolan is indeed the worst. Director. EVAR!!!!

Here's the thing - I don't have any feeling for Bane. I don't know who he is, what he is, what he's about. And this trailer isn't really helping me. I don't dislike it or anything, but it didn't really establish a tone to the villainy, at least not this one individual. It did do a nice job of hinting that there might not be a single villain, and in fact the world is simply crumbling.

Saw this right before Sherlock Holmes:AGOS. Glorious.

Still ambivalent about Selina Kyle's role, but in Nolan I trust.

Well that was easily the single longest chill-down-my-spine I have ever experienced. This looks awesome.

2011-12-19 03:21:01 PM
I can't watch the linked video, but I saw the trailer before Sherlock Holmes, so I'm going to assume it's the same one.... and my thoughts were basically.... it's probably going to suck? The whole "intense music over short tiny clips every exciting moment" strategy usually indicates, "we don't have a lot to work with." And it also seemed like an Inception cast reunion.

The football scene also looked really stupid, but that was just me. It didn't seem very Batman-ish to me. At all.

That might be good for you, not having any feelings. I went into The Dark Knight completely cold, except for a pic of the Joker that I saw. I was traveling a lot and was super busy and didn't have a lot of time to keep up with stuff. I was blown away. The prologue does a better job of giving you a feel of Bane but I tried to find a leak and they've all been taken down. A farker put up a good link in the other thread you might wanna try here. To me, it goes along with the roles the villains have played in the Nolanverse. Scarecrow and Ghul tested Batman's fears, Joker tested Batman's limits, and Bane will test his brains and brawn.

I loved batman begins, but the dark knight didn't do anything for me. The wrecked car that transforms into a motorcycle was just beyond stupid. I did enjoy the joker, but that was about it for that movie.

I'll still go see this one, but I hope it's more like Batman Begins than the dark knight.

I really, truly, hope for only one thing from movies for the next 10 years.....that the third instalment in this series does not suck.

"When Gotham is ashes, you have my permission to die." That line and the voice were chilling. Apparently they're going the Knightfall route.

don't think of it as a car turning into a motorcycle, think of it as, every time he was driving around, he was sitting on the motorcycle.

less transformer and more ejection-seat.
//and there ya go.

i am honestly going to be unable to sleep well till i see this. damn release schedules...

As for the "Who is Bane?" casual fans...that's one of the reasons Nolan picked that character. He did what no other villain did in the comics, he broke Batman, and put him on injured list.

That's why he used him in this film. It's going to be a test, b/c it's been 8 years in the film since The Dark Knight, and has Bruce Wayne become complacent, or in over his head?

I've liked Bane as a villain in the comics, usually when he's written as a very cerebral bad guy. I'm looking forward to it.

I found it entertaining, despite a languid start. Guy Ritchie's fast and loose interpretation of Holmes might not appeal to a purist, but I'm not one of them.

Catwoman just never works for me in live action Batman movies. She can be great in the cartoons and games, but try and put a real person in that frankly ridiculous costume and it breaks my immersion. I'm going to see this, but this trailer doesn't make me want to rush out and see it the first day.

I felt an odd sense of disappointment that Hine Ward didn't get swallowed up in the hole.

I'm still not liking the stadium cave in. The way it's filmed with the guy outrunning the cave is a ridiculous movie cliche that makes me think of movies like 2012, The X Files and countless others. Change the camera view to an overhead shot or a shot from the stands and it wouldn't be nearly as cheesy.

I've never liked her outside the Pfeiffer version, but the tone downed, social justice type we see here looks good. I also love Anne Hathaway.

I don't know about that. The cell phone vision in TDK and the killer gas and evaporator machine in Batman Begins were both more extreme than a motorcycle-escape pod.

One thing I love about these movies is that they're generally realistic (as far as superhero movies go), but they do include occasional and extreme sci-fi elements that are amazing.

nah, the sonar in every cell phone that gave him a magical real-time 3-d map of areas where there weren't any cell phones.

THAT was the 'getting into comic-book realm' moment for me.

but it was slickly executed and paced so i dug it all the same.

The problem with the Dark Knight was that it fizzles out at the end. The whole 2 boats 1 bomb plot was farking stupid and the final confrontation with the Joker was lame. I still liked the movie but it peaks with the semi flip scene and goes downhill from there.

So, instead of ending on a psychological thriller that makes you think and looks into the depths of human values, you preferred a truck flipping over.

I think that says it all.

To be fair, I think they were planning on having the Joker in the third one until Heath Ledger caught a case of the Olsen Twins.
