I was just listening to a show on local public radio, on which they were talking about how NH has the lowest unemployment rate in New England and one of the lowest in the country. The basic gist was that most jobs in NH are in retail, while the NH residents with the highest paying jobs actually work in Boston.

You don't need a sign. If you're close to the border, you know when you hit it because the road suddenly has a million potholes and/or isn't plowed.

"It's always a good idea to let people know when they're in New Hampshire because it's the best place to be," said Sen. Sharon Carson, R-Londonderry

New Hampshire is Best Hampshire.

Well, there's an efficient use of resources.

Hm. Conflicting loyalties.

On the one hand, go fark yourself NH. If it wasn't for Massachusetts, half of your state would be impoverished. Your biggest industry is tourism, and the only reason people visit is because it's close and cheap, so maybe you don't want to piss off the people with money.

On the other hand, I'm from NH, and won't allow anyone else to make fun.

Difficult.

You live in Londonderry. That's *hardly* New Hampshire. That's basically Northern Massachusetts.

I think the guys who count unemployment rates in New Hampshire don't count the guys north of Concorde who live in the mountains and live by scrounging and hunting animals.

/Was at the Motor Speedway at Loudon, NH not long ago. Man, it is like being in Mississippi during an Ice Age.

The rest of New England should follow New Hampshire's lead.

Have you ever been in Brattleboro, VT and walked across the bridge to NH? It's probably like walking into Best Korea from South Korea, or walking into Haiti from the Dominican Republic.

Have you been to Brattleboro recently? It's turned into the Bronx North.

I lived 20 min from Brattleboro until August. The last I checked it was a cute little town. I don't see how it's like the Bronx. Are there even any black people in VT?

Well, it's a great place to score some crack and meth now, for sure. Wander around downtown after like 8pm. All the hippies are gone... it's all rave music and hard drugs now.

The last time I strolled around there I met a man walking his pet pig. Maybe I don't look like the type who wants to buy crack or meth.

When I think the Bronx, I immediately think their biatchin' raves.

New Hampshire seems like an island of sanity in that crazy accented region. Freedom, sanity and tax dollars may all very well be saved thanks to these simple signs. Little ideas can make a big difference.

Six GOP lawmakers want the Department of Transportation to erect signs along every unmarked road leading from New Hampshire into Massachusetts, stating: "Warning: Massachusetts Border 500 Feet."

What a total waste of taxpayer resources. Who the f*ck votes for these people?

2011-12-19 02:03:52 PM
Stupid? Nah ...sounds sortta reasonable to me. That is, if their laws ARE that different.

What sounds stupid to me would be cops hanging out on either border trying to bust people just because they did not know they were in a different state.

2011-12-19 02:04:37 PM
I think countersigns warning people they were about to enter New Hampshire would be in order, perhaps with a picture of Yosemite Sam shooting his guns off.

FloydA: Well, there's an efficient use of resources.

Especially for a state with no income OR sales* tax.

* an 8% "rooms & meals" tax, a state liquor cartel, and several specific sales taxes which, in effect, add up to a stealth sales tax

Of course.

Massachusetts will not want to fall behind in a road sign gap.

The signs would be sponsored by businesses that want to help protect their customers from unwittingly breaking the law because they aren't aware what state they are in, several of the sponsors said.

Sounds like a "big problem."

But then again these same people biatch and moan about voter fraud

Everything is illegal in Massachusetts.

"It's always a good idea to let people know when they're in New Hampshire because it's the best place to be," said Sen. Sharon Carson, R-Londonderry, a bill sponsor.

New Hampshire Exceptionalism?

The lawmakers cited a story about a decorated New Hampshire veteran, licensed to carry a handgun in New Hampshire, who took the weapon with him across the border.
He had an encounter with Bay State police, pleaded guilty to a firearms violation there and was put on probation for two years, according to the lawmakers.

Yeah, I'm sure there's absolutely nothing more to that story.

The laws are VERY different. Here in Massachusetts, incest is illegal. We also allow black people to live here.

2011-12-19 02:14:05 PM
Massachusetts should set up toll booths at every crossing along the NH border and change all vehicles with New Hampshire plates a $5.00 "Safety Fee" to help make sure their time in the Commonwealth is safe and secure.

2011-12-19 02:15:12 PM
This does sort of being up the question of why the borders weren't clearly marked in the first place by either state.

Well New Hampshire has the 4th largest legistlative body in the world, with 465 members in the House alone. You're gonna get some nutters.

Indoor plumbing and a stable electrical grid too.

There was a guy a few years ago, a Republican state Rep from Nashua, who got elected - then it came out he was writing cop-killing fantasies on Usenet. When it all came out, he didn't even deny it, he dug himself in and started talking about police injustice. He resigned.

And then every once in a while, there's a state rep who gets elected and never shows up to the capital to vote.

Because there are a shiatload of little residential streets that stretch from MA into NH. Most of them have little signs (the size of street signs) but plenty do not.

/grew up near the MA/NH border
//We used to get NH hicks to buy us beer in high school by offering them $5
