If you make the safe drugs, like marijuana, illegal they'll smoke the unsafe ones like this crap.

Another win for the War on Drugs?

People can do other safe, legal drugs like drinking alcohol or smoking cigarettes.

FTFA:
Synthetic drugs are already on the legislature's radar, and a briefing book prepared for the 2012 General Assembly session contains information on synthetic cannabinoids, which have been linked to hallucinations, seizures, heart problems and suicides.

Oh, FFS. "Linked"? A small part of my research methodologist heart just died. Go ahead and replace "Synthetic drugs" with "Alcohol" in that sentence and there's REAL causal evidence.

FirstNationalBastard: Jenkem?

Jenkem-laced salvia-flavored bath salts.

Why is it that people who are drawn to authoritarianism - the ones who want to be the people who make and enforce the rules about everything or who want to make sure that SOMEONE does - are so frequently the least well informed and the least able to make good decisions?

2011-12-19 02:26:49 PM
Awesome, maybe they can swing it so that when this is illegal the can seize the assets of every smoke shop and mini-mart owner in their state. Cha-ching!

Beware kids that smell like grandma's house.

2011-12-19 02:29:02 PM
Damn kids today with their bath salts and potpourri. Back in my day we only had marijuana to get high off of and you never heard us complaining about it.

2011-12-19 02:29:58 PM
These synthetic herbal blends are dangerous. They are also inferior to marijuana, which has a 5,000-year record of successfully getting the job done.

I just wish I knew where to score a stanky, cerebral high-inducing bag of sativa (no indica plox). And I live in farking Oregon.

An interesting online book that examines that very question (new window)

Watching the Ravens game last night with the parents.
Ricky Williams comes on: "I don't like him, he shouldn't be allowed to play."
Ray Lewis comes on: "He is my Favorite! He's so awesome!"
Me: "You know Ray Lewis helped to kill a guy right?"
Them: "Yeah but he went through the system, he paid his debt, good guy."

/sigh

Spice has more in common with huffing paint than it does with weed. No one who has access to the real thing would smoke this crap.

I've done pretty much every drug I've ever come across except for crack and injected heroin.

Alcohol is by far the most dangerous of them all, probably followed by cigarettes but you could throw cocaine in there anywhere.

If you outlaw potpourri, only outlaws will have houses that smell like dead flowers.

I loved the attitude of the cop when he was pissed off that he couldn`t do a thing about legal activity.

I thought that was sort of the point of stuff being legal.

He`s just the enforcer and shouldn`t be involved with why or whether something is legal or not.

What the kids are smoking:

5% oregano
15% filter-tips
20% horse manure
20% crack
20% fruit-flavored tobacco in hookahs
15% hashish
5% Grandma's crappy medical marijuana

I just pulled that out of my ass but it's still better than anything you'll get from the hysterical right wing media or the nearly as hysterical MSM.

This is what you get when you criminalize drugs... People are using these synthetic drugs which are more dangerous simply to avoid the laws. They could be using the real thing which has a several thousand year track record for being safe. The same can be said for cocaine and the "bath salts" some people are using these days. However, powdered cocaine is a processed substance and can be dangerous due to it's potency.

And if they were a suitable substitute for weed, would people bother with sketchy synthetics? Think about this for a moment.

Also think about all that tax revenue lost due to not being able to sell marijuana legally where kids are buying this garbage.

More than 30 states have banned the substances.
Robertson also asked legislators for help on panhandling.
"Basically, we've noticed a sharp increase in ... the past seven months," Robertson told legislators.

A sharp increase in what?! Terrible article.

And did the article just go straight into a different topic about panhandlers with no lead-in whatsoever? What do panhandlers have to do with smoking potpourri?

I've tried this stuff. As far as I could tell, it was blueberry leaves, vacuum cleaner lint, and some basil, all laced with a synthetic cannabinoid. It certainly wasn't any worse for me than the cigarettes I smoke, and the high was odd.

Most aggressive munchies I've ever had. Ate a traffic cone and the neighbor's shih tzu.

Dominion's new in-house assay can detect the primary metabolites of the synthetic cannabinoids, JWH-018 and JWH-073, in urine by Ultra Performance Liquid Chromatography/Tandem Mass Spectrometry (UPLC/MS/MS).

There's no way they're running a sophisticated test on someone trying to get a job at Best Buy. They use the cheap as dirt 6-panel and call it a day.

UPLC isn't difficult at all to do. The Tandem MS is a different story.

KNOW YOUR DOPE FIEND. YOUR LIFE MAY DEPEND ON IT! You will not be able to see his eyes because of the Tea-Shades, but his knuckles will be white from inner tension and his pants will be crusted with semen from constantly jacking off when he can't find a rape victim. He will stagger and babble when questioned. He will not respect your badge. The Dope Fiend fears nothing. He will attack, for no reason, with every weapon at his command-including yours. BEWARE. Any officer apprehending a suspected marijuana addict should use all necessary force immediately. One stitch in time (on him) will usually save nine on you. Good luck.

I smoke the synthetic herbal blends when I don't feel like dealing with people.

'oh, he's supposed to call. haven't heard from him yet.'
'oh, it's supposed to come in today.'
'nope, not today, maybe tomorrow.'
'nope, not today, but Friday definitely.'
'he should have been here 3 hours ago. damn, it's getting dark already.'
'oh, he didn't have any dank, but he did have this.'
'oh, he's supposed to call. haven't heard from him yet.'

FFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUU.jpg

instead:
1. go to head shop.
2. '3g of Stairway, please'.
3. smoke.

A buddy of mine came over the other day with some of this shiat...

Meh.

Weed's decriminalized here in MA so why the fark would I smoke this crap instead? It's more expensive. Doesn't last as long. And it tastes like shiat.

Also, don't know if I'm going to ingest something whose ingredient list starts with "May contain..."

I'll stick to real weed, thanks.

Your question is wrong-way 'round. It is because they are the least well informed and least able to make good decisions that they seek a strong and decisive authority in whom they can place their trust.

Their insecurity and fear stems from their ignorance. It is that same ignorance which prompts them to seek guidance from some authority. It is that same ignorance which leads them to to trust anyone who looks and sounds intelligent and trustworthy. That "Authority" could be a loathsome despot, but if he has good hair, an expensive suit, is conventionally attractive, and can make a strong, emotional appeal, he's ruler for life.
