I can't imagine a single figure who is universally beloved. It's a weasel statement.

It's hilarious: you'd think that Santorum would have his moment as the Anyone But Romney Republican candidate, if people like Bachmann, Cain, and even Newt Gingrich could, but even the teabaggers don't seem to like this guy.

What he doesn't seem to get is that social issues only get you so far in an election. To thrill the teabaggers, you gotta hate on the homos and abortion-having sluts some, but not too much. If that's all you talk about, even they think you're unelectable.

2011-12-19 01:24:43 PM
All those things were either utterly useless (he's an uncle, and that's somehow important) or just confirm the widely known fact that he's an asshole ("lol I grew up in public housing like one of the welfare poors!").

I think his wife's aborted fetus would be notable. Since he has such strong opinions on the topic.

2011-12-19 01:44:32 PM
As crazy as you think he is, he's actually much, much crazier.

How about no.

Diogenes: I think his wife's aborted fetus would be notable. Since he has such strong opinions on the topic.

No no no. That was THEIR decision. As republicans, they were able to make such a decision in a responsible manner.

Blacks, democrats, and varieties of Christians not their own cannot be trusted with such a responsibility, and thus it must be outlawed for them.

i'm pretty sure we all knew that one.

Also -- when YOU sue a company for damages you're a parasite wasting the court's time and overly burdening job creators with your frivolous lawsuit so a limit must be placed upon damages you could steal from the pockets of Small Businessheroes, but when Santorum's wife filed a lawsuit she was simply using her rights to get the recourse owed her.

All I need to know about Santorum is he is a bigoted ideologue and a fundamentalist.

I wouldn't want him mowing my lawn, never mind running the country.

One member, however, demanded that the vote be recorded, so that the electorate could know the responsible parties. That congressman was Rick Santorum

Good for him.

This article is a huge nothing fluff-piece, and STILL some jackass calls it a "nasty hit piece" typical of NPR.

Really? Really, retard?

I guaran-farking-tee you that he also supports the right of corporations to make unlimited anonymous donations to politicians, and supports the anti-gay-marriage folks' right to make anonymous donations to lobbying groups that fight gay marriage. But politicians? All of THEIR behavior should be under a microscope.

How about EVERYTHING gets done in the open, Rick?

Having some knowledge of Santorum probably WOULD be helpful in the very likely event that his son kidnaps you and wishes to use your skin to make a cheerleader outfit -- perhaps striking up a conversation could serve as a distraction and prevent one's torso from being added to the collection.

Santorum is too extreme for the general election

Romney / Huntsman 2012

Now, that's a marketable ticket

Tea Party supporters hate that he gives credence to the Occupy movement by mentioning income inequality and a lack of social mobility in America. Real Tea Partiers know that the poor are 100% at fault for all of the problems in their lives.

How far NPR has fallen.

In their misguided efforts to appear bipartisan, they have decided to eschew reality.

I see now. It's only the top result if you search "Santorum," instead of "Rick Santorum."

I got the actual site, then the blog behind the site, then the wiki page explaining the joke. Rick came in sloppy, slippery fourths.

So, let's see. Santorum was born in '58, went to Penn State and graduated in 1980...

Jerry Sandusky returned to Penn State in 1969 and remained there as an assistant coach until his retirement at the end of the 1999 season.

Hmm, Santorum hates teh gheys. Could there have been an encounter with Sandusky during Santorum's years at Penn State that irrationally contributed to his vehement anti-gay views? The first three letters of their last names match!!! It must all means SOMETHING!!!

2011-12-19 04:05:09 PM
In the interview by Associated Press reporter Lara Jakes Jordan, when asked for his position on the Roman Catholic Church sex abuse scandal, Santorum said that the scandal involved priests and post-pubescent men in "a basic homosexual relationship" (not child sexual abuse), which led the interviewer to ask if homosexuality should be outlawed.

Santorum then brought up the then-pending U.S. Supreme Court case Lawrence v. Texas, which challenged a Texas sodomy law, and went on to declare that:

* he did not have a problem with homosexuals, but "a problem with homosexual acts"
* the right to privacy "doesn't exist in my opinion in the United States Constitution"
* and that sodomy laws properly exist to prevent acts which "undermine the basic tenets of our society and the family"
