This.

Tough to hear people biatch and moan about corruption in politics when they keep voting the same douchebags in year after year. Vote in the primaries people, for farks sake. And in special circumstances, cross party lines for a cycle. You better believe I'd vote (R) to get Charlie Rangel out.

If I remember right, Birmingham's problems came when the then-mayor's response to the federal government's request to upgrade their water treatment system was to buy the largest, most extravagant, most expensive water system available, when they would have been just as fine with a smaller, more sensible water management system.

It's not JP Morgan, it's their corrupt politicians. Throw the bastards in prison. California is stuck paying above market rates for electricity for 25 years because an incompetent democrat had an incompetent bureaucrat negotiate the rate and paid him $250,000 per year to do it. Gov Gray Davis got recalled for that but California can't get out of the contract and California went to court to break the contract and the judges just laughed in our faces.

I doubt the whole incompetence thing, I think they both got paid to sell us down the river.

In a case like this where we have so much proof that the Banks were predatory in their lending practices down to bribing elected officials, I believe the loans should be forgiven as a warning to lenders to not do stupid shiat like that again. I agree the officials were stupid/greedy to let them get away with it, but $150 for water/sewage is highway robbery. I have filled a swimming pool up twice in a month and mine has never been more than $55.

So JP Morgan offers a ridiculously shady bond issuance that may or may not actually consist of bonds, and then bribes the county commission to accept it.

The county commission accepts the bribes and accepts the proposal without actually understanding it.

Fark argues vehemently over whether to blame JP Morgan, Republicans, Democrats, Obama, or the inability to legally defecate in one's back yard.

Any wonder why the American People are losing?

well I guess fines are used because you really shouldn't put someone in jail for being bad at their jobs. If you can prove that they offered bad advice because the advice they gave would generate more revenues for the bank, that's something different.

The sewage system was supposed to cost $300 million. However, since the project started in 1996, the costs have risen to $3.1 billion after various problems and a series of bond and derivatives deals fell through in 2008.

You would just end up with them paying another fine and not admitting guilt.

2011-12-19 02:15:20 PM
So it seems like all the money for this bond is being paid to JP Morgan.

23 people from both sides of the deal, including the 2 directors of JP Morgan who oversaw this, have been convicted on corruption charges specifically for this case.

JP Morgan has made up more than 10 times what they were originally planning on making for this deal alone.

So why can't they just cut the agreement now since it was made on false pretenses and JP Morgan already made their money back ten fold?
