Or instead of only blaming JP Morgan, how about blaming their corrupt officials? It takes two sides for bribery, a giver and a receiver.

Not saying that JP Morgan is in the clear here, but they're not the only problem.

Exactly---JP was doing what they were supposed to do--turn a profit. Admittedly, they should not be using illegal methods, but that is still their goal. The Jefferson County officials betrayed their oath, betrayed their neighbors, and betrayed their constituents--to line their own pockets. Wanna take a wild stab what corrupt, inept party runs Jefferson County? Hint: It's the same party that runs just about every other major failing municipality in the US...

Are you in a "half full" or "half empty" mood?

Jail half empty: JP Morgan was able to buy off prosecutors.

Jail half full: At least county officials went to jail.

As I've said before, I want a legal rule saying that companies that pay off the SEC over fraud accusations are deemed to have admitted to the substance of the allegations, notwithstanding any language in the settlement to the contrary. Also I want a rule that patterns of misbehavior invoke the financial corporate death penalty (disbarred from playing the markets and making loans).

The corrupt officials can be dealt with easily at the ballot box, usually within a year or so. And once out of office there's little standing between them and a jail cell as poltiicans have modest personal means.

The corrupt JP Morgan executives yeild to no such simple remedy. Worse yet the have probably be rewarded for their behavior, and their company can muster enough legal might to let them seriously water down or avoid any real legal retribution.

It's not the injury that enrages most people, it's when the injurer seems to be able to get away with it, that they get angry

It's both funny and very sad to watch people blame "the other party" for everything, while they completly ignore the fact that their party is right there doing the same goddamn thing. How many Ds and Rs do you think play golf together and laugh at the stupid poor people who still buy into this theater? Each and every one of them is farking you for their own gains, the only difference is the role they play on TV.

Eh, I don't think you can fully blame the feds; they're just a convenient excuse. I did public works projects for 10 years as a GC; SO MANY farking communities have ignored maintaining and upgrading their water and sewer infrastructure for decades.

For example:
Lynchburg, VA, estimated a few years ago that 40-60 percent of the drinking water they pumped out to residents was lost to leaks.

JP Morgan...and a long, long line of JeffCo County Commissioners, who through their incompetence and corruption are for the most part now in Federal prison.

JeffCo residents are merely the morans who kept electing the same sorts of clowns over and over.

Massachusetts banned outhouses in the 1990s as part of a rewrite of "title 5" septic regulations. Old ones may be grandfathered until the property is sold.

That's the idea, citizen.

Get the people so riled up that they start to openly rebel, then crush them, and impose authoritarian rule over the states.

The only hard part is they had hoped to have a Dominionist in office when the powder keg finally goes off.

FTFA:

Sewage and water rates (on average) have increased faster than inflation because the federal government has demanded that cities replace their "worn-out" sewer facilities to meet federal clean-water standards.

When a federal judge forced Jefferson County to upgrade its outdated sewer system, officials decided to finance the project with bonds.

Outside advisers suggested a series of complex deals with variable-rate interest that were later shown to be laced with bribes and influence-peddling. Loan payments rose quickly because of increasing interest rates as global credit markets struggled, and the county could no longer afford its payments.

"This is not even a race issue, if I'm telling the truth," said Tyson. "It's just so happens that it's affecting black people. It's a class issue. They don't give a doo-doo about poor people period."

Unfortunately, with the sewer rates going sky-high in Jefferson County, they're going to have more doo-doo than they can deal with.

Sorry subby, Jefferson County's situation is completely and entirely of their own making. They've elected openly corrupt officials for at least two decades. The commission chairman that oversaw a good part of the bond issue is already doing federal time (so are several other former commissioners).

If JeffCo residents are looking for someone to blame, the best place to start is in the mirror.

2011-12-19 01:59:06 PM
I think everyone in Jeff Co ought to just start taking dumps in the storm sewers, and buy bottled water. That would fix 'em.

Wow, only $14 dollars a month for a sanitation company to come out and suck out your port-a-potty? There are always a lot of construction workers in my neighborhood and I always see them using the port-a-potties. Sometimes I sneak in there and just sit for a few hours. It's peaceful until the local children throw rocks at it.
