And I don't think dramatically cutting defense spending will hurt our national security. So here we are.

Pshaw, Romney is still making oodles of cash from Bain Capital unemployed! (new window)

Instead, it preserves the existing Medicare program, allowing seniors to choose to receive vouchers for private insurance instead of the government plan

hmmm, let me think... do I want a voucher that will only cover a fraction of my medical bills or do I want medicare... such a hard decision here, oh well I will think about that later, right now I am deciding if I want to have steak tonight or diarrhea in a bowl.

But a 1% tax will destroy the rich. They are fragile ethereal creature who scare easy.

Yes but have you checked your basement for terrorists recently? What's that? There are none? What do you think will happen if you cut defense spending? Terrorists. Basements. Count on it.

No worries. People with Romney money don't understand the actual value of things like us plebeians.

He actually may be the craziest. We never actually hear the true Romney; we just hear what he thinks the GOP constituency wants to hear....and yes all politicians do this to some extent, but Romney raises the bar for being a fake fark.

What? You don't want to have a presidential election in 2012?

You know, I don't care at all that Romney is filthy rich and always has been. This isn't a barrier to public service in my mind.

It bothers me when he tries to play that "I'm just like you" bullshiat. It bothers me when ANYONE does that. You're not like me. You and I will never have the same issues and problems, but that doesn't mean you can't understand my problems.

I take issue politicians PRETENDING to know my problems and STILL not doing shiat about them, or even worse, pretending to know my problems and actively working to make them worse.

"The people who have been hurt are in the middle class," Romney said. "I'm not looking to dramatically reduce taxes for the wealthiest in society."

The only apparent difference among the Republican candidates is by how much they are going to reduce taxes for the wealthiest.

Because anything else would be socialism.

And a true American would have contempt for the poor, another thing that the candidates seem to be vying over to determine who hates the poor most.

Taking money from poor people is helpful, but taxing the rich means the world will end.

Don't worry. You see, if we shut down medicare, all of that savings will trickle down and magically buy medicine and doctor visits for people.

Diogenes: No worries. People with Romney money don't understand the actual value of things like us plebeians.

I'm playing Assassins Creed: Revelations at the moment, and my trick is to leave the game running with my character in a safe spot, so that my bank account continues to accumulate while I'm not doing anything in particular to earn it. I've already got more money than I'll ever need to complete the game and I'm not even 1/4 of the way through.

I imagine being Mitt Romney is something like that.

You know, the poor are not some abstract concept we can only speculate about. It is perfectly acceptable to go to their houses and actually speak to them in person, instead of having to perform thought experiments.

Cutting Medicare will embolden welfare queens to finally go out and get the jobs that job creators created during the Bush Administration.

These people are all rich and have been that way since, well, forever. They truly don't understand what it's like to be poor.

thomps: holy sh*t, people are still taking paul ryan's budget proposals seriously?

Why of course! He's a "rising star" in the party, despite that fact that his batshiat Randriod crap inspired a bit of a backlash amongst us "common folk". Nobody wants to fark Aunt Martha, only the worst of the right wing will agree with him. The pandering to the smallest minority of idiots is only going to hurt the GOP, as evidenced by the 2011 Elections. But, for some reason, they just keep rolling with it.

Dear GOP supporters,

I would like to bring two things to your attention.

1) The poor are not going to disappear just because you cut any assistance they get. It will just make them more desperate.
2) Thanks to your shameless fight against gun control that no one even proposed, firearms are numerous and very inexpensive.

So I invite you to pick up a history book and see how that goes down. There are numerous examples.

The only history book I need is the bible and I don't need to read it when I can have a few selections read to me once a week.

Look, everyone knows by now that the poor are beings of opportunity who abuse and squander whatever charity they are provided. The reason the economy collapsed was that all of the leeches abandoned their jobs for the easy street of living on the dole and only through abolishing the social safety net will the economy improve.

/Scrooge at least used the defense of his tax dollars funding the prisons and workhouses; Republicans would argue that they are a waste of tax dollars since the government cannot create jobs so the "salaries" are really just more handouts.

2011-12-19 12:06:16 PM
"Cutting welfare spending dramatically, I don't think will hurt the poor," Romney said.

"But if we raise taxes on the rich by 4%, our entire society will collapse." he then added.

Good God. This man may be their candidate next year?

I guess we deserve the likes of him. We've had it coming for a while.

2011-12-19 12:06:34 PM
Okay, congresspeoples. You want to get serious about eliminating welfare and other "entitlement" spending? Raise minimum wage for everyone with a HS degree or GED by $5 an hour over the next five years. Pretty much everybody working 40 hours a week, even flipping burgers or running a cash register at Wal-Mart, will be able to afford to live completely on their own (without any state or federal assistance).

/seriously. It's the one change that would make the biggest difference.

What if we keep TANF, but pay the poor in bootstraps?
