That will just give everyone more time for grinding and Footloosing.

So, let's see. So far this year the Skaneateles school district: got caught cheating by "recruiting" ringers for their football team, as a result their students were denied the chance to play in the championship game. Now, they're taking away the kids' winter ball. Real genius at work there.

So It's going to be a blue ball?

The high school cancelled the ball because it couldn't stop grinding up against other high schools?

/shiatty grammar is shiatty

Yeah, let's take away something the kids are looking forward to because it offends us. Let's ensure the kids are not going to be in a place where there are adults who have a chance to make sure the kids keep their clothes on.

Genius.

I've seen dance classes

Most of the moves very closely resemble cheerleading moves.

Others have no explanation at all. I think if I went to a dance instructor and asked "what does this motion represent or express?" they wouldn't know what to say.

There is a difference between dancing at a social and being a showgirl or cheerleader.
A few generations have blended the two, leading to ridiculousness.

I guess that they'll just have to learn to do what we did in our day, which is to leave the dance, get hammered, and go f*ck in the back seat of the car.

/Is there still enough room in a car to get laid?

2011-12-19 11:13:49 AM
But, they got the biggest balls of them all?

2011-12-19 11:14:08 AM
I don't get it. Why not just kick out the offenders without a refund for their tickets? All our dances were setup like this. There were dress codes for formal attire and rules of what was appropriate. If you showed up in something inappropriate (mostly the tuxedo t-shirts and holey jean, but one girl to get booted for a skimpy dress) or danced like a monkey in heat then you were kicked out. Most people wanted to be at the dance, so they acted appropriately so they could stay.

I would say by far though most people were kicked out or refused entry by either being drunk or showing up with alcohol. All the bathrooms had parent attendants that would catch anyone who tried to smoke or drink in the bathrooms. You weren't allowed to go outside and come back into the dance. If you left then you were gone permanently. It worked for us anyway and no dances were ever cancelled.

2011-12-19 11:14:46 AM
Since "western" culture doesn't have dance as a cultural tradition, we just boil paired dancing down to its basic nature: vertical suggestion of horizontal intention.

And, if I remember the original movie, the kids organized their own dance. So unless the school/district/authorities want to press the Freedom of Assembly issue....

/and yeah, they could regulate and price the kids out of holding one....

2011-12-19 11:16:59 AM
meh... I'll side with the school on this one...

If the kids can't act with some degree of dignity, too freaking bad.

It's not about limiting their rights, or preventing them to "express" themselves, it's that if they actually believe that "grinding" is actual dancing, they simply look like idiots.

I remember all too well what it was to be that age, and seriously, this sort of thing happened once in a while with some kids that though they were edgy. They looked stupid, and simply passed on the message that they required attention.

Dancing should be about having fun... grinding is just a freaking and tasteless circus act. The guys look like idiots and the girls look slutty and idiotic also. Mimicking sex acts... just go online and watch porn or get a room if you have the "urge" that's too strong to control.

Why should we? We're animals. Hell, animals don't invent as many variations of sex as we do. We're sophisticated animals.

FTFA:At F-M, students now are given a wristband when they arrive and if they grind, they're given a warning and the bracelet is removed. If there's a second infraction, they're asked to leave, Kilmer said.

That... that's actually a good idea. I mean, if a school's gotta have their rules, it's better than cancelling the thing entirely.

2011-12-19 11:26:21 AM
And what's up with the music these damn kids listen to? Why can't they just do exactly what we did?

cig-mkr: I remember when the priest at the school dances would go around and tell couples to make room for the Holy Spirit.

Hah, now that is funny, and probably a lot more effective than the approach modern educators are using. Of course, a priest admonishing kids for sex with kids is all sorts of farked up.

2011-12-19 11:27:03 AM
Back in my day, grinding wasn't heard of, you just slid your hand down and grabbed her ass while you danced. Same thing, different generation. Just tell the kids to clean up their dancing and quit making a big deal out of it.

Is that like a CUMbia?

WTF is wrong with these kids? I can understand the boys, but are teen girls really that slutty now? I mean I could maybe see this in a real club loaded on -X-, but at a school dance?

Even I wouldn't do that, and I've done everything. Anyway the guy with the prettiest woma(e)n is the one who can dance. Cumbia, tropical even salsa will work although for salsa teh ghey helps a lot.

I can't speak for your generation, but my mom (age 51) smoked reefer, got drunk, and made out with her grade 13 boyfriend when she was at her grade 9 dance. Maybe it's the generation of parents who missed out on the fun when they were kids, punishing their own children by deciding no one gets to have fun since they didn't.

"Dancing is a vertical expression of a horizontal desire." Always has been. Always will be.

That being said, as someone who goes swing and blues dancing and sees how racy and flirty some of those dances can be (part of why I go), I find this inane. First, let's look at the solutions they tried:

"Students, parents, staff and administrators came up with new rules for dances." I'm sure the cool kids all wanted to be on that committee. Plus, parents now are basically the same ones who were listening to Sir Mix-a-Lot back when they were that age. Hypocrites.

"Gym teachers taught dances - waltz, tango, cha-cha, the hustle - for contests at the next dance." Even better. First off, a good tango is supposed to be very sensual and (gasp!) sexual. Great work. Plus, I'm sure the kids really want to gather at house parties after prom so they can form a waltz circle around the keg in the cool parents' living room. This idea is in no way out of touch (sarcasm).

"The district tried switching disc jockeys ... Christian Brothers Academy in 2006 stopped the music and switched to playing oldies at a dance because too many students were grinding." OK, let's make things lamer. That'll work. Or, that'll drive down entrance fee revenue and make the dance something no one will want to go to, anyway, so you might as well just cancel it.

Here's my view: Once upon a time, Elvis shaking his hips was too sexual. Partner dancing, because it involved touching the opposite sex, was considered risque. Grinding was an "issue" when I was in high school, i.e. the 90's. C'mon.

Of all the problems we have for our kids to face in the world, grinding isn't the biggest. Let the grinding go as long as both folks are standing and the person in front isn't bent over more than a reasonable degree (disallow hands on knees). Plus, we act like this is some kind of a new problem. It's how people have danced for 15 years.

Make a rule that if someone's on the ground, unless the song calls for it (like the limbo), the only move they can do is that Russian-Kozachok-kicky-dance-thingy or The Worm, and they can only do it if no one's around or over the top of them to eliminate the simulated ground sex, which isn't really dancing as much as it is dry humping.

This just in: Hormone-infused kids want to get laid, think about it constantly and will dance like it if given the chance. Watch any teen movie going back to Fast Times at Ridgemont High to understand that. I sometimes think there's more wrong with the people who are in denial of that and try and ban any thought or hint of it than those who acknowledge it and teach kids how to deal with those urges and even let them express them, within reason, without actually allowing them to do the deed (which they might go off and do when the grown-ups aren't watching, anyway). Dry humping is inappropriate in public. But I don't see nothin' wrong with a little bump 'n' grind, and neither did these kids parents when they were in school. Let it go.

I graduated highschool in 05, so the older generations (you know the ones who couldn't put the credit cards down) have already written ours off as worthless.

My parents were always cool, bit the Sheila Braflofskys of the world existed then too.

So cancel the dance and the kids will go to the permissive house, get drunk and fark with their clothes off instead of pretending to with them on.

Or know very many Caribbean folk.

'Grinding' looks like sex with clothes on, but as long as the culture doesn't encourage false cries of rape, that's their business. It's when you get culture clash that shiat happens.

Craziest shiat I ever saw was some muslim kids grinding......... with the chicks in full burqa attire. I'm like, lolwat?

/still believes its inappropriate for 5 year olds to grind - that's not crazy, that's just nasty
//but island culture is island culture

100 years ago people were getting married at their age, now with all the advancements of technology and learning as well as birth control, we tell them they are not capable of determining when or when not to exhibit sexuality.

In the past 30 years we have done everything in our power to remove the ability of teenagers to make poor decisions & learn something from it, in order to protect them... We have introduced draconian measures to keep them inline & punishments that used to be a stern lecture or running laps are now handled by the police.

Am I the only one who thinks that our society is ridiculous?
