Not sure what she has to do with football, but nice tits anyway.

So what was the amazing trick? I'm assuming the ball was snapped to the QB who handed it off as he spun around Brokel. Otherwise there would be two guys in motion.

So Dennis Miller is calling games again?

IIRC, she was the girl from the movie "Little Giants." The Annexation of Puerto Rico (again IIRC) was the trick play that Rick Moranis' team used to defeat Al Bundy's team.

There were several things that made this work- Brokel didn't flinch in recieving the handoff, the O-line was casual, like the play started prematurely, and the QB sold the fake well, and the left side blocked the run well afterwards. Not complicated, just well executed.

You're right. I must've seen that play run a dozen times or so, in that game alone. You should've seen this play I ran in high school, me andblablahblahblahblahblahblahblah

It's misdirection coupled with the classic "O Line acts shocked at the snap" trick play. The most interesting thing is all the spinning.

Babwa Wawa: Dude runs like a duck.

Yeah he does. No way he outruns anyone into the endzone if they didn't fool most of the defense on the play, but I'm not sure the play would have worked if one of the main guys (Stewart/William/Olsen/Shockey) had been the one receiving the super-secret hand off.

Still, congrats to the guy for getting his first NFL touchdown, and congrats to the Texans for confusingly calling lots of pass plays in the red zone to allow the Panthers to win that game.

Wait... Richie Brockel was involved in a trick play? Where did he go to college again? Oh, yeah:

lmxloco: congrats to the Texans for confusingly calling lots of pass plays in the red zone to allow the Panthers to win that game.

The Texans were getting stopped in the red zone a lot while running. And as far as the play, that one I had to rewind a few times just to see what happened. I had to congratulate them on it also.

Some part of me was expecting the Texans to lose. The hangover from the playoff clinch, Wade being out, and Carolina not getting enough credit made me think it wasn't going to be good.

The defense was so out of position at the time of the snap, there didn't need to be trickery. A dozen different plays would have been just as successful.

No you're right...I think with Wade Phillips out, they let it get to their heads, as well as the celebration for clinching the division.

The defense came out in the 2nd half, and knocked the Panthers around, sans that capping drive. But by that point, Yates had the yips and was checking down and making bad throws.

They need Andre back, b/c the field needs to be stretched out so the running game can develop. It's clutch time once again, and Jacoby Jones is nowhere to be found. Of all the GM work this year, I think signing him to $3 mil a year was outright stupid.

Article today in the Charlotte Observer: They actually do call this play "Annexation of Puerto Rico" after the movie. Rivera is a big fan.

Good for him. An undrafted, 4th-string (per the Panthers' website) TE has to work very hard to get/stay on the active roster, let alone get a chance to score a touchdown in a regular season game. Of course, that could be said for 99.44% of the guys that aren't on the two-deep depth chart but that doesn't diminish his accomplishments. Even if he doesn't get another chance in his career, he'll always have this one play to show his kids/grandkids/etc...

The defense wasn't set up yet b/c the Offense wasn't in their down position, hence the nature of the "trick play".

Isn't there some rule about the entire offensive line being on at least 3 before the ball snapped? In the video, it looks like only the center is the one with one hand on the turf. Wouldn't this be called an illegal formation?

I believe the rule is that you must have that many on the line of scrimmage. Not necessarily that they have to have their hands on the ground.

It's basically a variation on a play Chud called when he was with the Browns last year. Link (new window)

/And that was apparently a page out of Josh Cribbs' college playbook.

...check that, Chud wasn't with the Browns last year. But it is a variation on that trick play, it looks like. And I bet Cribbs gave him the idea at some point before he left Cleveland.

Here's a better video (new window, might be an ad, but several replays and slomo)

Cam took the snap then handed it off through the legs of the half back. Never seen that before.

A couple of the Texans' lineman were not fooled at all. They went straight after the back as soon as he got the ball through his legs, before he started running the end around, even, but they were blocked by the offensive line.
