That's a lot of soldiers that died while under the direction of POTUS Obama. You didn't hear much about them, did you?

264 as opposed to 4538 tends to weight towards the latter.

Well of course. Those lives mean nothing to him if they can't be used to advance his political agenda.

It's sad and disgusting, but there you go.

"And the question in my mind is how many additional American casualties is Saddam worth? And the answer is not very damned many. So I think we got it right, both when we decided to expel him from Kuwait, but also when the president made the decision that we'd achieved our objectives and we were not going to go get bogged down in the problems of trying to take over and govern Iraq."

-Dick Cheney

Even Cheney knew what a waste the invasion of Iraq was. It was too bad he was too much of a sociopath to care.

Kind of like how pulling out of iraq is not smart even now but seems to be happening because its an election year?

I hated this war from the start but there is going to be a civil war over there and then we wait to see if iran is stupid enough to try and invade them again.

Personal view was we should have never been in iraq and I liked having another crazy dictator so close to iran to keep them in check.

factor int he casualties formt he Iraqi Civil War that raged from about 05 to '08 and the 1 Million number the Lncet came up with is actually close on the mark. The UNHCR estimated there were 5 million internally or externally displaced refugees from the conflict, and a 20% casualty to refugee rate is actually low for such conflicts

Nope, there isn't. Sad thing is that every military member since 1900 (and possibly earlier) has been a political pawn. Check out Smedley Butler's "War is a Racket".

No, you are just brainwashed into thinking that blind obedience and reverence for volunteers fighting a massively stupid war of their own accord is the only way to be American.

How come American soldiers and Iraqi civilians are the only wasted lives? Iraqi soldiers don't count? Remember, Iraq didn't do the invading.

While every death is tragic, there is somehow a poignancy to being the last one. In particular it is always cruel when it seems like you're going to make it (only a couple weeks from the end of your tour or station). He was probably already imagining Christmas at home.

The thing that gets me most is that these are very fine people. Looking at him in that picture you can tell that he could have really done something with the rest of his life, especially when American needs some upstanding young people to get the economy and optimism back on track.

// peace to all of you

I've heard a lot of coverage of this for the past month, with a lot of journalists asking soldiers "Was is worth it?"

Mostly, officers refuse to answer of change the subject.

Mostly, enlisted men say something like "Yes, because if it wasn't my freinds died for nothing."

I haven't heard anyone say Iraq or the US is better off.

I hope this is right (that no more soldiers will die there) - but they are on stand-by in Kuwait and will likely be heading back in for "security" reasons. Also, there are still a whole mess of US personnel still in Iraq, and are now more exposed - so I fear that instead of this being the "last" - it will only be the first of the rest of the casualties.

So does accuracy. If you review the stories about US casualties in Iraq, you will find a predominance of the Hero tag, no matter who was in 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. The only "zero" I see here is your credibility.

Can someone help me find the video where Dick Cheney was asked how long we will be in Iraq, and he says something like "It may be six days, hell it may be six months." or something similar?
