If I could get canned reindeer meat it would become a Christmas staple.

it's not the venison
it's the liver
a whole different texture and dependent on what they feed their stock

I would guess quite tasty but a bit more subdued than antelope.

claiming that the process of harvesting the venison is traumatic to the animals.

The trauma is slightly mitigated by the fact that the animal is dead.

Sounds like an awesome gag gift. Or a fine way of letting the precious snowflakes in on the truth about Santa.

Do they think the animals wake up in a bathtub full of ice and bandages over the missing liver, not remembering anything after the crazy party last night?

Open question: would this be considered a Streisand Effect?

Silly, they just wake up dazed and confused in a snow bank. The North Pole is very cold.

After hearing about this on NPR and BBC last week, I searched around on a few online stores to see if I could order any for Christmas. Couldn't find any. :(

Its just goes to show, there's no such thing as bad publicity.

Google found this one (new window) in Alaska. They also have canned musk-ox, which IMHO tastes better than reindeer. There used to be a Canadian company that sold similar products but it looks like they went out of business a while ago.

I live in Fairbanks, we have a cafe called The Loose Moose where you can buy all their stuff, plus fresh burgers and hot dogs/sausages made out of all kinds of game. Plus, my butcher usually has some Reindeer available.

've got my order in already for next season's green curried crickets. Doubt they'll run out of toasted ants, but it's hard to find curried crickets. Especially the green ones.

Animal rights activists are masters at shooting themselves in the foot.

You would think they would learn.

/or maybe they're getting paid under the table to drum up controversy.

It's not like they used Santa's reindeer - they all have jobs.

This stuff is 100% canned reindeer. They were just too lazy for anything else, not flying, just playing reindeer games while living off welfare programs that do nothing but drain the Arctic Reserve.

Good riddance, I say.

Hear me, hear me! Stop eating reindeer! Stop eating them with honey mustard sauce. Stop eating them with tangy sweet-and-sour sauce. Stop eating the new fiesta reindeer salad. Stop taking advantage of the money-saving 12-pack. Stop enjoying reindeer on the patio, in the car, or on the boat. Wherever good times are had!

CANNED REINDEER?!
How dare they!
Always demand it FRESH.
